"The Sigg Prize is a biennial award that recognises outstanding practices of artists born or working in the Greater China region. The prize is a platform to highlight and promote on an international scale the important work and discussions taking place here. For this inaugural edition, an international jury has selected six shortlisted artists to participate in the Sigg Prize 2019 exhibition before the winner is announced in May 2020. The shortlisted artists are Hu Xiaoyuan (born 1977, lives and works in Beijing), Liang Shuo (born 1976, lives and works in Beijing), Lin Yilin (born 1964, lives and works in New York), Shen Xin (born 1990, lives and works in Minneapolis and Amsterdam), Tao Hui (born 1987, lives and works in Beijing), and Samson Young (born 1979, lives and works in Hong Kong). They encompass different generations and geographies and work across a range of mediums, including sculpture, site-specific installation, video, and performance. Their practices articulate clear perspectives on topics that defy easy categorisation, and the work featured in this exhibition addresses pressing questions that resonate across contexts."--West Kowloon events website (accessed 5/11/2020).

Fractured Scenes written by Damien Charrieras and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-03-29 with Social Science categories.

Fractured Scenes is the first extensive academic account of music and sound art practices that fall outside of the scope of ‘mainstream music’ in Hong Kong. It combines academic essays with original interviews conducted with prominent Hong Kong underground/independent musicians and sound artists as well as first hand-accounts by key local scene actors in order to survey genres such as experimental/noise music, deconstructed electronic music, indie-pop, punk, garage rock, sound art and DIY ‘computer’ music (among others). It examines these Hong Kong underground music practices in relief with specific case studies in Mainland China and Japan to begin re-defining the notion of a ‘musical underground’ in the context of contemporary Hong Kong.

This expanded second edition of Reclaiming Artistic Research explores artistic research in dialogue with 24 artists worldwide, reclaiming it from academic associations of the term. Embracing artists' dynamic engagement with other fields, it foregrounds the material, spatial, embodied, organizational, choreographic, and technological ways of knowing and unknowing specific to contemporary artistic inquiry. The second edition features a new text by the author and four new artist dialogues to reflect on the changing stakes of artistic research in the wake of the global pandemic, a widespread reckoning with social justice, the growing role of artificial intelligence, and the urgent reality of climate change. Right Is Wrong Four Decades Of Chinese Art From The M Sigg Collection written by Lars Nittve and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with Art, Chinese categories.

Right is Wrong is an extremely concentrated contemporary art history narrated through a number of key works. It gives us the opportunity to look at the connections between art and society from the specificity of recent Chinese history by showing the development of the art scene in relation to the socio-political development in China. Right is Wrong raises questions about the relationship between art and contemporary life and contemporary history. It inquires about how art reflects or mirrors a society and simultaneously influences it, about how art not only reacts to and comments on events and incidents, but also is an agent shaping our future. This exhibition raises the question: what can art do? The relationship between art and society, art and ideology, art and politics, is the underlying theme which runs through Right is Wrong.0Exhibition: Bildmuseet, Umeå, Sweden (08.06-12.10.2014).

The Making Of M written by H. G. Masters and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07 with Museum architecture categories.

The new M+ museum of modern and contemporary visual culture will open its permanent new home in the West Kowloon Cultural District of Hong Kong in the autumn of 2021. Designed by Herzog & de Meuron, the building is set to become a striking landmark on the waterfront of Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour. But even before the new building opened, M+ has been busy engaging with local and international audiences through a broad range of programmes and exhibitions and a strategic approach to collecting. The opening of M+'s new home is undoubtedly a milestone in the institution's ongoing story, yet it also marks an important moment to reflect on its development to date. The Making of M+ is an immersive visual encounter with the many stages of the museum's evolution. H. G. Masters, the book's guest editor, and Sulki & Min, its award-winning designers, present images and words relating to M+'s first three decades - starting with the reclamation of the land on which the M+ building stands. While the hundreds of images in the book document the programmes, collections, staff, audiences and architecture that have helped shape the museum, the texts have been carefully selected from key moments in the institution's formation, encompassing official pronouncements, staff mantras, public reactions, and snippets from the local and international press. Offering a wide range of perspectives and voices, The Making of M+ is an innovative companion to the creation of a remarkable cultural institution - the first of its kind in Hong Kong and Asia. With 360 illustrations in colour

Dark Side Of The Boom written by Georgina Adam and has been published by Lund Humphries Publishers Limited this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Art categories.

"This book lifts the lid on some of the excesses that the 21st-century explosion of the contemporary art market brought in its wake, notably at its very top end. The buying of art as an investment, temptations to forgery, tax evasion, money laundering and pressure to produce more and more art all form part of this story, as do issues over authentication and the impact of the enhanced use of financial instruments on art transactions. Drawing on a series of revealing interviews with artists, lawyers, dealers, law-enforcement agents, tax specialists and collectors, the author charts the voracious commodification of artists and art objects, and art's position in the clandestine puzzle of the highest echelons of global capital. Adam's revelations appear even timelier in the wake of the Panama Papers disclosures, for example incorporating examples of the way tax havens have been used to stash art transactions - and ownership - away from public scrutiny. Georgina Adam casts her judicious glance over a section of the art market whose controversies and intrigues will be of eye-opening interest to both art-world players and observers."--Publisher's description.
