Data simulation is a fundamental technique in statistical programming and research. Rick Wicklin's Simulating Data with SAS brings together the most useful algorithms and the best programming techniques for efficient data simulation in an accessible how-to book for practicing statisticians and statistical programmers. This book discusses in detail how to simulate data from common univariate and multivariate distributions, and how to use simulation to evaluate statistical techniques. It also covers simulating correlated data, data for regression models, spatial data, and data with given moments. It provides tips and techniques for beginning programmers, and offers libraries of functions for advanced practitioners. As the first book devoted to simulating data across a range of statistical applications, Simulating Data with SAS is an essential tool for programmers, analysts, researchers, and students who use SAS software. This book is part of the SAS Press program.

A recent development is the discovery that simple systems of equations can have chaotic solutions in which small changes in initial conditions have a large effect on the outcome, rendering the corresponding experiments effectively irreproducible and unpredictable. An earlier book in this sequence, Elegant Chaos: Algebraically Simple Chaotic Flows provided several hundred examples of such systems, nearly all of which are purely mathematical without any obvious connection with actual physical processes and with very limited discussion and analysis. In this book, we focus on a much smaller subset of such models, chosen because they simulate some common or important physical phenomenon, usually involving the motion of a limited number of point-like particles, and we discuss these models in much greater detail. As with the earlier book, the chosen models are the mathematically simplest formulations that exhibit the phenomena of interest, and thus they are what we consider 'elegant.'Elegant models, stripped of unnecessary detail while maximizing clarity, beauty, and simplicity, occupy common ground bordering both real-world modeling and aesthetic mathematical analyses. A computational search led one of us (JCS) to the same set of differential equations previously used by the other (WGH) to connect the classical dynamics of Newton and Hamilton to macroscopic thermodynamics. This joint book displays and explores dozens of such relatively simple models meeting the criteria of elegance, taste, and beauty in structure, style, and consequence. This book should be of interest to students and researchers who enjoy simulating and studying complex particle motions with unusual dynamical behaviors. The book assumes only an elementary knowledge of calculus. The systems are initial-value iterated maps and ordinary differential equations but they must be solved numerically. Thus for readers a formal differential equations course is not at all necessary, of little value and limited use.

Introduction To Network Simulator Ns2 written by Teerawat Issariyakul and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-12-10 with Technology & Engineering categories.

An Introduction to Network Simulator NS2 is a beginners’ guide for network simulator NS2, an open-source discrete event simulator designed mainly for networking research. NS2 has been widely accepted as a reliable simulation tool for computer communication networks both in academia and industry. This book will present two fundamental NS2 concepts:i) how objects (e.g., nodes, links, queues, etc.) are assembled to create a network and ii) how a packet flows from one object to another. Based on these concepts, this book will demonstrate through examples how new modules can be incorporated into NS2. The book will: -Give an overview on simulation and communication networks. -Provide general information (e.g., installation, key features, etc.) about NS2. -Demonstrate how to set up a simple network simulation scenario using Tcl scripting lanuage. -Explain how C++ and OTcl (Object oriented Tcl) are linked, and constitute NS2. -Show how Ns2 interprets a Tcl Script and executes it. -Suggest post simulation processing approaches and identify their pros and cons. -Present a number of NS2 extension examples. -Discuss how to incorporate MATLAB into NS2.

Following The Trend written by Andreas F. Clenow and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-11-21 with Business & Economics categories.

During bull and bear markets, there is a group of hedge funds and professional traders which have been consistently outperforming traditional investment strategies for the past 30 odd years. They have shown remarkable uncorrelated performance and in the great bear market of 2008 they had record gains. These traders are highly secretive about their proprietary trading algorithms and often employ top PhDs in their research teams. Yet, it is possible to replicate their trading performance with relatively simplistic models. These traders are trend following cross asset futures managers, also known as CTAs. Many books are written about them but none explain their strategies in such detail as to enable the reader to emulate their success and create their own trend following trading business, until now. Following the Trend explains why most hopefuls fail by focusing on the wrong things, such as buy and sell rules, and teaches the truly important parts of trend following. Trading everything from the Nasdaq index and T-bills to currency crosses, platinum and live hogs, there are large gains to be made regardless of the state of the economy or stock markets. By analysing year by year trend following performance and attribution the reader will be able to build a deep understanding of what it is like to trade futures in large scale and where the real problems and opportunities lay. Written by experienced hedge fund manager Andreas Clenow, this book provides a comprehensive insight into the strategies behind the booming trend following futures industry from the perspective of a market participant. The strategies behind the success of this industry are explained in great detail, including complete trading rules and instructions for how to replicate the performance of successful hedge funds. You are in for a potentially highly profitable roller coaster ride with this hard and honest look at the positive as well as the negative sides of trend following.

NS-2 is an open-source discrete event network simulator which is widely used by both the research community as well as by the people involved in the standardization protocols of IETF. The goal of this book is twofold: on one hand to learn how to use the NS-2 simulator, and on the other hand, to become acquainted with and to understand the operation of some of the simulated objects using NS-2 simulations. The book is intended to help students, engineers or researchers who need not have much background in programming or who want to learn through simple examples how to analyse some simulated objects using NS-2. Simulations may differ from each other in many aspects: the applications, topologies, parameters of network objects (links, nodes) and protocols used, etc. The first chapter is a general introduction to the book, where the importance of NS-2 as a tool for a good comprehension of networks and protocols is stated. In the next chapters we present special topics as TCP, RED, etc., using NS-2 as a tool for better understanding the protocols. We provide in the appendices a review of Random Variables and Confidence Intervals, as well as a first sketch for using the new NS-3 simulator. Table of Contents: Introduction / NS-2 Simulator Preliminaries / How to work with trace files / Description and simulation of TCP/IP / Routing and network dynamics / RED: Random Early Discard / Differentiated Services / Mobile Networks and Wireless Local Area Networks / Classical queueing models / Tcl and C++ linkage
