Through this book may you find moments of peace, happiness and comfort as you rest in the arms of the ultimate all encompassing reality that we in our search for meaning try to describe by the hopelessly inadequate, misunderstood and abused term "God." Putting together a book of prayer for everyday use by everyone and anyone is quite a challenge. To whom are the prayers directed? The word "God" is a very loaded term conjuring up many different ideas to many different people. Some people have no problem with the God word and that is fine. But others cannot accept it. God is by very definition indefinable and the very best of words which attempt to define the indefinable must always fail. I cannot conceive of the idea of God "out there" pulling strings in order to respond to our prayers. When we speak of a personal God I believe we largely project our limited individual human personalities on the divine. Texts that suggest that God has made us in His image lead us to see God in our own limited image. God becomes a bigger version of ourselves, and therefore not necessarily a very attractive one. The God that I believe in is intra personal and ultra personal, immanent and transcendent. I believe we are not so much His creation but intimately part of Him and He of us so that when we pray we turn our thoughts inward to the very essence of who it is that we are, people living and moving in God and in whom God lives and moves and has His being. Ultimately we pray to be at one with what is. I hope that the prayers in this book will help you to be at one with what is. Through it may you find moments of peace, happiness and comfort as you rest in the arms of the ultimate all encompassing reality that we in our search for meaning try to describe by the hopelessly inadequate, misunderstood and abused term "God." The Calling What The Lord Intended written by Donald T. Davies and has been published by Xulon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-02 with Religion categories.

According to David Barrett of the World Christian Encyclopedia, there are more than 10,000 distinct religions in the world. Maybe, surprisingly to some, Barrett says there are 34,000 separate Christian groups. Hmmm. That's a lot of faith. That's a lot of religion; most of which finds its basis in human reason and invention. However, there's a faith that's called THE FAITH. It finds its basis and creation in the Lord, and is clearly delineated in His Word, the Bible. He, the Lord not man, set the parameters, the boundaries, and the substance of the faith. Unfortunately, those who claim to be followers of the Lord have tended to wander from the kind of faith the Lord has called His people to follow and reproduce. The author doesn't presume to have special revelation. He doesn't pretend to have access to secrets that are unique to him. He simply places THE FAITH into its historical context while making application to the believer of today. It's time to take a fresh look at the faith and calling the Lord intended. This book is just the beginning, but the author hopes it will be a profitable beginning for all who read it. DONALD DAVIES has been married to his high school sweetheart, Carolyn, for 43 years. Over the years they've been blessed with eight children of their own and numerous foster children. After graduating from college (University of Akron) and Seminary (Asbury Theological Seminary), Donald has served as pastor in a number of churches, retiring from the Arlington Memorial Baptist Church after 25 years of service there and a total of 40 years in the pulpit ministry.

God Calling provides groundbreaking and provocative insights into how God works in the world through the gift of his Holy Spirit. In the NT we do not find the saints praying and constantly asking God what to do; instead, the Spirit continuously leads and guides, giving Spiritual Direction for People in the Real World--people just like you! Looking at the biblical record as a whole, God Calling delivers a paradigm shift for our understanding the indwelling Spirit's impact on Christians' decision-making, prayer life, spiritual practices, and knowing God's will. Bringing spiritual warfare down to the real world, God Calling helps us correct some of our hyper-spiritual practices, while giving clear spiritual direction to enable followers of Jesus living in the real world to be wise, mature, and Christ-like, and for his church to be robust, proactive, and confident.

Calling On The Name Of The Lord written by J. G. Millar and has been published by Apollos this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with Bible categories.

"At that time people began to call upon the name of the LORD" (Genesis 4:26 ESV). From this first mention of prayer in the Bible, right through to the end, when the church prays "Come, Lord Jesus!" (Revelation 22:20), prayer is intimately linked with the gospel--God's promised and provided solution to the problem of human rebellion against him and its consequences. After defining prayer simply as "calling on the name of the Lord," Gary Millar follows the contours of the Bible's teaching on prayer. His conviction is that even careful readers can often overlook significant material because it is deeply embedded in narrative or poetic passages where the main emphases lie elsewhere. Millar's initial focus is on how "calling on the name of the Lord" to deliver on his covenantal promises is the foundation for all that the Old Testament says about prayer. Moving to the New Testament, he shows how this is redefined by Jesus himself, and how, after his death and resurrection, the apostles understood "praying in the name of Jesus" to be the equivalent new covenant expression. Throughout the Bible, prayer is to be primarily understood as asking God to deliver on what he has already promised--as Calvin expressed it, "through the gospel our hearts are trained to call on God's name" (Institutes 3.20.1). This New Studies in Biblical Theology volume concludes his valuable study with an afterword offering pointers to application to the life of the church today. Addressing key issues in biblical theology, the works comprising New Studies in Biblical Theology are creative attempts to help Christians better understand their Bibles. The NSBT series is edited by D.A. Carson, aiming to simultaneously instruct and to edify, to interact with current scholarship and to point the way ahead. -- Amazon.

A Rebellion against Apathy. A Strategy for Action. “Life is full of good intentions, but for too many, our good intentions never become good actions—they don’t move us forward, draw us closer to God, or make a difference in the world. Good intentions are cans of paint that could have become amazing works of art…but never did.” —Daniel Day, in Ten Days Without Daniel Day could tell you all about his love for God and his desire to live as a follower of Jesus. But it took a simple but radical experiment to move from simply talking about it to actually living like it. For ten days at a time, Daniel chose to abandon a certain “necessity”—a coat, a voice, shoes, media, furniture, legs, touch—and to blog about it to raise funds and awareness for organizations that are doing amazing things to make a difference in the world. And then he invited others to join him in the experiments and spread the vision. Together they served God and others—and experienced significant personal change in the process. Ten Days Without is the story of their life-altering adventure. Ten Days Without is a compelling story and practical guide that will equip you and your friends to break through walls of convenience and indifference, and join a movement that is confronting apathy and ignorance around the world to make an impact on people’s lives in a God-honoring way. Ten Days Without is where our good intentions end and making a difference in the world begins.

The Old Testament prophet Jeremiah was called by God in his young life to a daunting and pivotal task. Nevertheless, God prepared him for ministry in the first nineteen verses of his book. In this forty-day journey, author John A. Coaxum dissects Jeremiah chapter one verse by verse to reveal what the calling of God really is and is not. Many dash into ministry hastily and end up disillusioned and disappointed because of expectations God never promised and sacrifices they were never ready to make. This book is a practical guide for anyone who senses God calling them to serve and what they should know before they answer.

Intentional Christian written by Daniel Ryan Day and has been published by Our Daily Bread Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with God (Christianity) categories.

Our Christian culture tends to emphasize specific life callings. God does call certain believers to specific short-term tasks or even lifelong careers. But too many of us are waiting for God to hand us a dream job or reveal some big plan for our lives. All we really need to know has already been revealed in Scripture by directives like "love God and love others" and "seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God." Daniel Ryan Day defines the difference between "specific callings" and "common callings" so you can become an "intentional Christian," finding fulfillment by serving God in all things.
