Un simulateur de conduite est un outil de formation et d’entrainement qui reproduit dans un contexte artificiel une situation de conduite réelle d'un véhicule automobile. Le nombre des utilisateurs ayant recours à ce type d'outil ne cesse d'augmenter. L'objectif premier des constructeurs automobiles est de tester l'interaction véhicule-conducteur afin d'évaluer l'impact sur la conduite de nouveaux dispositifs intégrés au véhicule et les réactions de ces dispositifs aux différentes manœuvres du conducteur. Pendant la conduite d'un véhicule automobile ou d’un deux-roues motorisé, les sources d'informations qui permettent au conducteur de suivre une piste donnée et de contrôler son véhicule sont variées. L'objectif de la simulation de conduite est donc de fournir une illusion de mouvement propre, en cohérence avec les informations réelles, sur un véhicule entièrement virtuel, à l'exception des organes de commande (guidon, accélérateur, frein, etc.). Cette illusion est un phénomène complexe qui met en jeu les capteurs proprioceptifs de l'être humain, et notamment les systèmes visuel, kinesthésique et vestibulaire.

Passive and active safety systems (ABS, ESP, safety belts, airbags, etc.) represent a major advance in terms of safety in motoring. They are increasingly developed and installed in cars and are beginning to appear in twowheelers. It is clear that these systems have proven efficient, although there is no information about their actual operation by current users. La seconde expérience s'intéresse aux performances lors d'une tâche d'attention divisée sur simulateur de conduite en fonction de l'expérience, de l'âge et du type d'apprentissage suivi. Enfin, la troisième expérimentation a pour objectif d'étudier l'impact de faible et forte dose d'alcool sur les performances de jeunes conducteurs, novices et expérimentés, lors d'une tâche d'attention divisée. Ces recherches permettent d'approfondir nos connaissances sur les mécanismes d'actions de la distraction et de l'alcool sur les performances du conducteur, en particulier des novices.
