The intention of this study is to question the supposed self-evident connection between sickness and sin in the individual complaint psalms. The model of thought which is often said to characterize these psalms' interpretation of YHWH's role in suffering is that sickness is a punishment from an avenging god. On the basis of a careful analysis of the psalms which contain the three motifs divine absence, divine wrath, and man's guilt, the author problematizes this aspect of the exegetical literature's widespread interpretation of the theological dimension of illness. As an alternative, the understanding of life which characterizes these psalms is brought to the fore. The individual's relationship to God is not understood in light of the categories guilt and innocence, but rather in relation to YHWH's freely given gifts of existence by which the threatened person is received into the saving presence of God. Like life itself, this foundational divine presence is something which can not be claimed, impossible for man to appropriate by his own attitude or achievements. Life is, like fellowship with God, nothing to take for granted, but something to receive as given. For that reason, the theory of individual retribution does not function as an interpretation of YHWH's role in situations of acute suffering. Rather, the sudden loss of the presence of God and the life-threatening situation which thereby arises remains for the individual as something uncalculated and irrational. The divine presence is, like life itself, continually threatened, but neither from its Giver nor its receiver. This threat comes from a realm competing with God and life. The God of the psalms is the giver of life, not itsdestroyer.

This volume discusses the topics of sin, suffering, and evil in the Hebrew Bible. It gathers fresh and innovative perspectives provided by internationally renowned biblical scholars that not only demonstrate ways in which these topics are dealt with in the Hebrew Bible itself, but also map out their lasting impact on human experience of suffering throughout history. Put into dialogue with the thought-provoking work of Fredrik Lindström, the volume provides a diversity of methodological approaches to the question of human suffering and God's role in it, ranging from discussions of monism in the Hebrew Bible, through deconstructive readings of evil in the Exodus narrative, to the processing of suffering at the Dachau concentration camp, and ways that the dynamics of good and evil might play out in a technological future dominated by artificial intelligence.

Don T Blame God written by Mark H. Graeser and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-08 with Religion categories.

This book addresses what is probably the number one question most people have about God: If He is a loving God, why is there such rampant human suffering? This book shows biblically that God is not at all to blame, that the cause of all suffering is sin, and it shows whose sin. It shows why Jesus Christ is the fulcrum of history in this regard, and resolves the seemingly apparent contradiction between the nature of the Old Testament God and that of the New Testament God, which, of course are the same changeless God. The book exposes the myth that God is totally in control of all that happens (which would make Him responsible for it) and shows that He and His Son Jesus Christ are doing all they can to intervene in the realm of Satan's authority and help us. A chapter on faith shows what faith is and how it helps us to access the power of God. The book shows how God does test us for our benefit, though never by tragedy or affliction. It explains what the "chastening" of God is and why it has nothing to do with anything like punishing us. The redemptive value of the proper response to suffering is also discussed. Letting God speak for Himself and seeing the truth of His Word about the subject of evil, sin, and suffering will help you grow immensely in love for God and His Son, in faith for their promises, and in hope of the final victory that is ours, enabling you to live with joy and peace, even in a "war zone."

Suffering Obedience And The Origin Of Sin written by Man Kei Ho and has been published by Xulon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-04 with Religion categories.

This book explores the meaning of obedience based on the biblical teaching from the book of Hebrews that Jesus Christ as the Son has to learn obedience from his suffering. The author delves into the various issues surrounding the nature of obedience, and weaves them into a discourse on the efficient cause of the sin of the first parents. He draws them together into an assertion; that the fall of the first parents in the Garden of Eden is not a possible outcome, it is an inevitable outcome. Dr. Man Kei Ho holds a Ph.D. from University of Wales in theology and has served as visiting lecturer at seminaries and universities in Hong Kong, Philippines, and China. Currently, he is teaching theology at the Chinese School of Theology at Tyndale Seminary in Toronto. Prior to his theological training, he spent over 20 years working as an engineer in high tech industries. He is a registered professional engineer in the Province of Ontario, Canada.

"If you are looking for one book to make sense of the problem of evil, this book is for you." Sean McDowell Grasping This Truth Will Change Your View of God Forever If God is good and all-powerful, why doesn't He put a stop to the evil in this world? Christians and non-Christians alike struggle with the concept of a loving God who allows widespread suffering in this life and never-ending punishment in hell. We wrestle with questions such as... Why do bad things happen to good people? Why should we have to pay for Adam's sin? How can eternal judgment be fair? But what if the real problem doesn't start with God...but with us? Clay Jones, an associate professor of Christian apologetics at Biola University, examines what Scripture truly says about the nature of evil and why God allows it. Along the way, he'll help you discover the contrasting abundance of God's grace, the overwhelming joy of heaven, and the extraordinary destiny of believers.
