Hegel und Heidegger teilen die Ansicht, dass das, was den Bedeutungsgehalt von Begriffen konstituiert, in ihrer unmittelbaren Verständlichkeit verborgen liegt. Dieser Gedanke bildet den Kern einer Konzeption der Negativität im Sinne einer Auffassung der Art und Weise, in der Sinn von Latenz geprägt ist. Hegel und Heidegger verstehen aber die Natur jener Latenz und das Verhältnis von Sinn und Begriff verschieden. Denn mit einer solchen Konzeption der Negativität ist die Frage verbunden, ob die Konstitution von Sinn begrifflich artikulierbar ist und ob Sinn überhaupt begrifflich verfasst ist. Dieser Frage geht das Buch nach, indem es Hegel und Heidegger in ein Gespräch bringt, um den Stellenwert des begrifflichen Vermögens in der Konstitution und Artikulation von Sinn zu klären. Dabei wird eine Kritik an der Auffassung formuliert, dass die Quelle von Sinn nichtbegrifflich und unbegreiflich ist, und argumentiert, dass nur die begriffliche Artikulation von Bedeutungen die semantische Fülle der Welt verbürgt.

What role does our conceptual capacity play in the constitution and articulation of meaning? The book pursues this question by bringing Hegel and Heidegger into conversation. To frame this debate, it articulates a theory of negativity shared both by Hegel and Heidegger according to which concepts are at once revealing and concealing. In other words, concepts render beings intelligible by making abstraction of the source of their intelligibility. But while Hegel holds that meaning is disclosed only through concepts, Heidegger claims that concepts are entrapped in a historical paradigm and cannot recover the source of meaning. The book critically engages with this claim by distinguishing between our conceptual capacity and a conceptual apparatus. Drawing on Hegel, it explains that while a given conceptual apparatus is as such oblivious of its sources, its assumptions can be revealed and overcome by conceptual articulation. Our conceptual capacity, even if dependent on a parochial apparatus, enables us to question the concepts we inherit. The book argues that the meanings constituting our world can be actualized and enriched only through the conceptual articulation of human experience.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2003 im Fachbereich Philosophie - Theoretische (Erkenntnis, Wissenschaft, Logik, Sprache), Note: 1,7, Technische Universität Dresden (Institut für Philosophie), Veranstaltung: Frege und Russell über Bedeutung und Referenz, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Mit der vorliegenden Arbeit habe ich mir vorgenommen die Fregeschen Begriffe von Sinn und Bedeutung so darzustellen, dass vor allem der Unterschied der beiden Ausdrücke deutlich wird und darauf folgend Freges Anliegen, welches ihn zu solch einer Differenzierung brachte. Im ersten Teil der Arbeit möchte ich in Umrissen das wissenschaftliche Leben Gottlob Freges behandeln, da es immer noch so ist, dass Frege zu den im Allgemeinen eher unbekannten Mathematikern und Philosophen zu rechnen ist. In diesem Abschnitt möchte ich jedoch gleichzeitig auf seine bedeutenden Schriften und Erkenntnisse auf dem Gebiet der Sprachphilosophie und -wissenschaft eingehen. Frege vor allem als Sprachwissenschaftler zu betrachten ist für mich auch aufgrund meines Germanistikstudiums von Interesse. Bei sprachwissenschaftlichen Satzbetrachtungen spielte der Name Gottlob Freges des öfteren, wenn auch nur am Rande, eine Rolle. Diese Arbeit wendet sich also vor allem der bereits erwähnten Begriffsunterscheidung von Sinn und Bedeutung zu. Bevor ich jedoch ausschließlich den Sinn und die Bedeutung in die weiteren Ausführungen einbeziehe, möchte ich Sinn und Bedeutung, sowie deren Verbindung zur Vorstellung näher erklären. Nachdem die Begriffsklärung abgeschlossen ist möchte ich die anschließenden Teile der Arbeit Beispielen und näheren Erklärungen widmen. Wichtig ist es mir Sinn und Bedeutung von Sätzen sowie von sprachlichen Zeichen ausführlich darzustellen, um so anschließend zum Wahrheitswert sprachlicher Ausdrücke überleiten zu können. Auch auf Sinn und Bedeutung von Eigennamen, als auch auf arithmetische Zeichen möchte ich im Folgenden näher eingehen. Die Arbeit stützt sich dabei vor allem auf den Fregeschen Aufsatz „Über Sinn und Bedeutung“ sowie auf die Ausführungen in „Funktion und Begriff“. Freges philosophischen Werke werden in heutiger Zeit erneut aufgelegt, was für deren Bedeutung spricht. Dem muss man jedoch gegenüberstellen, dass diese Werke im Allgemeinen nur recht wenig Beachtung finden.

As Hegel and Frege are the founding fathers of the continental and analytic cultures of philosophy respectively, the salient argument of this paper is that the two cultures are, likewise, more alike than thought. I compare Hegel's first publication, often called Differenzschrift, to Frege's later works on the philosophy of language, Funktion und Begriff and Über Sinn und Bedeutung. I argue that in explicating the cognitive difference expressed by the concept of identity, Hegel develops a theory of pragmatics and semantics that has several similarities to the Mediated Reference Theory proposed by Frege. In doing so, I present an analytic account of Hegel's Absolute Identity determined by the equality of the co-domains produced by two compound functions. These functions are composed of semantic, pragmatic and epistemic constraints that evaluate the ontic content of a proposition.
