In the near future, the United States has fought a short, bloody war with China in the Pacific. The fighting is over, but the U.S. Navy maintains a blockade. Some call it the First Sino-American War. Others worry it is the start of World War Three. In a prison cell in Beijing, Navy fighter pilot Jack Knapp tells his story about the victory in the Battle of Taiwan and how he ended up in a Chinese show trial, accused of crimes against humanity. With his life in the balance, Jack will have to choose between survival and participating in his captors' lies, and ultimately learn the true meaning of heroism in a war between superpowers where even stories are weapons.

Winning The Third World written by Gregg A. Brazinsky and has been published by UNC Press Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-02-23 with History categories.

Winning the Third World examines afresh the intense and enduring rivalry between the United States and China during the Cold War. Gregg A. Brazinsky shows how both nations fought vigorously to establish their influence in newly independent African and Asian countries. By playing a leadership role in Asia and Africa, China hoped to regain its status in world affairs, but Americans feared that China's history as a nonwhite, anticolonial nation would make it an even more dangerous threat in the postcolonial world than the Soviet Union. Drawing on a broad array of new archival materials from China and the United States, Brazinsky demonstrates that disrupting China's efforts to elevate its stature became an important motive behind Washington's use of both hard and soft power in the "Global South." Presenting a detailed narrative of the diplomatic, economic, and cultural competition between Beijing and Washington, Brazinsky offers an important new window for understanding the impact of the Cold War on the Third World. With China's growing involvement in Asia and Africa in the twenty-first century, this impressive new work of international history has an undeniable relevance to contemporary world affairs and policy making.

Rumbles Of Thunder written by Steve Chan and has been published by Columbia University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-12-27 with Political Science categories.

It is widely believed that shifts in the balance of power between an established hegemon and a rising upstart can lead to war. To what extent does this proposition hold true for Sino-American relations today? Steve Chan examines a range of international relations theories and popular narratives that suggest an elevated risk of confrontation between the two powers. Probing the recent deterioration in Sino-American relations, he considers whether several factors that can raise or lower international tension apply to the current situation. Chan demonstrates that power shifts do not preordain violent outcomes—nor does their absence ensure peace. Criticizing overly mechanistic frameworks, he emphasizes that domestic politics, international political economy, and the choices of individual leaders are all crucial to understanding why wars happen. Chan demonstrates that claims of a “rising China” catching up to and even poised to overtake the United States are alarmist: American structural advantages will endure for some time to come. Contrary to prevailing narratives, China does not act like a revisionist power seeking to overturn the system, while the United States, far from defending the international order, has frequently undermined it. However, Chan cautions, Taiwan remains a flashpoint for a possible Sino-American conflict. Bringing together expertise in IR theory and keen political acumen, Rumbles of Thunder challenges conventional wisdom on the likelihood of war between the United States and China.

This is a comparative study of U.S.-China mutual images in the post-Tiananmen and post-Cold War context. It theoretically and empirically explores three broad questions: what are the cognitive structures and ingredients of Sino-American mutual images, and how do they converge or conflict with each other? With the current mutual images of the American and Chinese elites as a base line, how have these images evolved since the 1970s, and what patterns of perceptual change have emerged? And finally, what are some of the important sources of image formation and evolution and how do they function for different image dimensions?

Sino-American Relations brings together high-quality research articles in order to examine one aspect of the political mechanism of modern China, from empire to the PRC: political initiatives to root out corruption. Proceeding chronologically, the eleven chapters explore modern political history through a particular focus on the anti-corruption campaigns of early modern and modern China. Our interdisciplinary analysis draws on methodologies from several distinct fields, including political science, civil law, and mass media. Such an analysis reveals the unique characteristics of China's urbanization, which have transformed not only the country, but also the CCP - from a rural-based totalitarian party to a city-centered authoritarian party, and from a party of the people to a party of powerful interest groups by 2002-2016.

Collaboration between the United States and China in the war against Japan during the years 1941-1945 belongs to the less weighty but one of the most debated themes of World War II. In principle, the alliance counted China among the «Big Four» allies, along with the United States, Great Britain and the Soviet Union. Working out the significance of that position during the war produced intractiblity in relations between China and the other powers. This work investigates both the internal and the external factors that bore on China as a result of this alliance.
