Libro que sirve como base y punto de partida para el estudio psicosocial del comportamiento humano. Este trabajo posee un objetivo simple: generar un manual que sirva como guía para estudiar el fenómeno del poder en las organizaciones. Estas líneas se escriben bajo la premisa de aportar una estructura práctica y útil como primera aproximación al poder. Y como todo plano, por sencillo que éste sea, posee unos puntos de referencia de partida y éstos se orientan entorno a tres hipótesis, que pueden sintetizarse en: A)- El poder es un efecto colectivo y no individual, es decir, necesita para manifestarse como mínimo de un grupo. Y un grupo necesita de una organización para desarrollarse. Es por ello que el grupo es entendido e interpretado en estas páginas como la unidad básica de análisis del poder, a la cual tienden todos los individuos de una organización. B)- El poder utiliza unos Mecanismos de Control del orden-desorden para estabilizar su espacio de poder, entre ellos y uno de los más importantes, el Mecanismo de Control de la Información. C)- El poder se manifiesta en su forma más pura, en las situaciones de conflicto, de crisis o de colapso, en el espacio o sistema. D)- El poder produce cambios y modificaciones en la estructura psicológica de quien lo ejerce.

La teoría clásica considera el poder como un bien apropiable, que uno puede tener como un bien material y, en consecuencia, también perder. La posesión puede, entonces, acumularse y hacerse durar. Sin embargo, este uso metafórico no basta para analizar más profundamente este tema. La tan fácilmente asible categoría de posesión esconde lo que hay que saber justo en el punto donde la pregunta tendría que empezar, pues ¿qué condiciones sistémicas tendrían que cumplirse para que el poder pueda llegar a ser una posesión, para que sea administrado como tal, transferido como una cantidad constante, aumentado y disminuido, y defendido contra peligros específicos? El poder es una manifestación del fenómeno más general de la influencia, es decir, una comunicación que se entiende como selección de las alternativas de A que implica una selección de las alternativas de B. Es una selección selectivamente condicionada. La función del poder puede ser así reescrita como la generalización de la relevancia de rendimientos decisionales individuales. Para esto se requiere reflexividad, un proceso incremental por medio del cual el poder se aplica a sí mismo y crece en el sistema más allá del poder individual de cada uno. Entonces, ya no es poder que unos ganan y otros pierden, sino que es Poder en el sistema.

In light of new proposals to control undocumented migrants in the United States, Parcels prioritizes rural Salvadoran remembering in an effort to combat the collective amnesia that supports the logic of these historically myopic strategies. Mike Anastario investigates the social memories of individuals from a town he refers to as “El Norteño,” a rural municipality in El Salvador that was heavily impacted by the Salvadoran Civil War, which in turn fueled a mass exodus to the United States. By working with two viajeros (travelers) who exchanged encomiendas (parcels containing food, medicine, documents, photographs and letters) between those in the U.S. and El Salvador, Anastario tells the story behind parcels and illuminates their larger cultural and structural significance. This narrative approach elucidates key arguments concerning the ways in which social memory permits and is shaped by structural violence, particularly the U.S. actions and policies that have resulted in the emotional and physical distress of so many Salvadorans. The book uses analyses of testimonies, statistics, memories of migration, the war and, of course, the many parcels sent over the border to create an innovative and necessary account of post-Civil War El Salvador.
