"Siyavush of Our Century" was written by political visionary Mammad Amin Rasulzadeh (1884-1955) who headed the Musavat Party and helped set up the Azerbaijan parliamentary democratic republic in 1918, the first such republic of Turks and Muslims in the eastern world. The turmoil of the times, however, proved too much for Rasulzadeh's young government. On April 25, 1920, Bolshevik troops crossed into Azerbaijan and entered Baku on April 28. They demanded the resignation of Azerbaijan's Parliament and set up their own government. The fledgling democracy, in only its 23rd month, collapsed immediately. Azerbaijan remained under communist rule until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. "Siyavush of Our Century" is a unique work of politics & history, philosophy & literature founded upon the ancient myths and legends of the Turkik peoples. It was written in July 1920 and first published in Istanbul in 1925. It is widely recognised as a classic by the people of Azerbaijan.

Foreign Policy Of The Republic Of Azerbaijan written by Jamil Hasanli and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-12-16 with Social Science categories.

As revolution swept over Russia and empires collapsed in the final days of World War I, Azerbaijan and neighbouring Georgia and Armenia proclaimed their independence in May 1918. During the ensuing two years of struggle for independence, military endgames, and treaty negotiations, the diplomatic representatives of Azerbaijan struggled to gain international recognition and favourable resolution of the territorial sovereignty of the country. This brief but eventful episode came to an end when the Red Army entered Baku in late April 1920. Drawing on archival documents from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, United States, France, and Great Britain, the accomplished historian, Jamil Hasanli, has produced a comprehensive and meticulously documented account of this little-known period. He narrates the tumultuous path of the short-lived Azerbaijani state toward winning international recognition and reconstructs a vivid image of the Azeri political elite’s quest for nationhood after the collapse of the Russian colonial system, with a particular focus on the liberation of Baku from Bolshevik factions, relations with regional neighbours, and the arduous road to recognition of Azerbaijan’s independence by the Paris Peace Conference. Providing a valuable insight into the past of the South Caucasus region and the dynamics of the post-World War I era, this book will be an essential addition to scholars and students of Central Asian Studies and the Caucasus, History, Foreign Policy and Political Studies.

The Sacred Routes Of Uyghur History written by Rian Thum and has been published by Harvard University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-10-13 with History categories.

For 250 years, the Turkic Muslims of Altishahr—the vast desert region to the northwest of Tibet—have led an uneasy existence under Chinese rule. Today they call themselves Uyghurs, and they have cultivated a sense of history and identity that challenges Beijing’s official national narrative. Rian Thum argues that the roots of this history run deeper than recent conflicts, to a time when manuscripts and pilgrimage dominated understandings of the past. Beyond broadening our knowledge of tensions between the Uyghurs and the Chinese government, this meditation on the very concept of history probes the limits of human interaction with the past. Uyghur historical practice emerged from the circulation of books and people during the Qing Dynasty, when crowds of pilgrims listened to history readings at the tombs of Islamic saints. Over time, amid long journeys and moving rituals, at oasis markets and desert shrines, ordinary readers adapted community-authored manuscripts to their own needs. In the process they created a window into a forgotten Islam, shaped by the veneration of local saints. Partly insulated from the rest of the Islamic world, the Uyghurs constructed a local history that is at once unique and assimilates elements of Semitic, Iranic, Turkic, and Indic traditions—the cultural imports of Silk Road travelers. Through both ethnographic and historical analysis, The Sacred Routes of Uyghur History offers a new understanding of Uyghur historical practices, detailing the remarkable means by which this people reckons with its past and confronts its nationalist aspirations in the present day.

It gathers original research from a range of leading international scholars from the UK, Europe and the USA whose chapters throw new light on a set of topics in medieval Islamic history, Islamic doctrine and practice, and the interaction between Islam and the modern world. Seeking to present fresh evidence and engaging ways of looking at old and new material, the authors contribute to a richer understanding of the interaction between historical events, social trends, religious practices and lived experiences in medieval Turkey and Central Asia, Iran and the Arabic-speaking lands. The book also discusses how some of the most abiding themes in the Arab-Islamic tradition continue to resonate in the modern world. The book features contributions from: Julia Bray, Edmund Bosworth, Farhad Daftary, Gerhard Endress, Gary Leiser, Remke Kruk, Charles Melville, A. H. Morton, Ian Netton, Andrew Newman, A.
