Jeremiah Hensley, a native of New Orleans, is the author of eight books. He is also a victim of Hurricane Katrina, who applied for assistance through Louisiana's Road Home Program. The information that he presents in his book "Louisiana's Katrina Recovery Fiasco," is a result of first-hand experience with Louisiana's Road Home Program. He provides compelling evidence that there seems to be another agenda afloat with those who created Louisiana's Road Home Program. Delay, discourage, and divert seems to be the order of the day. The public believes that the citizens of Louisiana are rolling in dough as a result of the billions of dollars that President Bush had targeted to go directly to Louisiana's homeowners. The facts are, the citizens of Louisiana will never be able to touch one dime of that money. As of October of 2006 only 12 out of 120.000 Louisiana citizens have received any type of funding from Louisiana's Road Home Program. Only ten percent of the Road Home money will be given to homeowners as a down payment for construction related expenses. Maybe we should take a lesson from the terrorist state Hezbollah, and actually help the citizens of a state in the richest and most powerful country in the world.

During Hurricane Katrina, evacuating New Orleans residents were forced to leave their pets behind. Bobbi the dog was initially chained to keep her safe, but after her owners failed to return, she had to break free. For months, Bobbi wandered the city's ravaged streets-dragging her chain behind her-followed by her feline companion, Bob Cat. After months of hunger and struggle, the Two Bobbies were finally rescued by a construction worker helping to rebuild the city. When he brought them to a shelter, volunteers made an amazing discovery about the devoted friends-Bob Cat was actually blind! He had survived the aftermath of the storm by following the sound Bobbi's chain made as she dragged it along the ground. At the shelter, the two bob-tailed friends refused to be parted, even for a moment. Could rescue workers find the Bobbies' owners? Or could they find a new home that would take them together? This remarkable true story of devotion and survival is a testament to the spirit that defined post-Katrina rescue missions, and is a perfect way to commemorate the this day in history.

Dog Smart written by Jennifer S. Holland and has been published by Disney Electronic Content this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-05-21 with Pets categories.

This cutting-edge science narrative, chock-full of heartwarming case studies, is one woman’s quest to learn the true meaning of dog intelligence. This delightful narrative takes readers on a powerful search to unlock the secrets of dog cognition, based on evidence from trainers, owners, behaviorists, and the animals themselves. With in-depth reporting and more than a few personal adventures, bestselling author Jennifer S. Holland digs into what intelligence really means. Readers will meet a pack of genius dogs, each of whom embodies a particular kind of smarts. Holland spends time with Cat Warren, who trains cadaver dogs, to learn about "nose intelligence.” To unpack emotional intelligence, she examines an unlikely dog friendship; to unpack task learning ability, she seeks out an agility trainer. She interviews police-dog trainers (volunteering to be attacked by one in the name of science), service-dog trainers, and trainers who rehabilitates "bad" dogs. And she gets to know breeds that are considered especially intelligent—border collies, cattle dogs, and German shepherds—to discover whether they are truly "smarter," or just more in tune with humans. In between field experiences, Holland spends time with dogs in a variety of settings—a rescue center, a dog park, a boarding facility— while pondering the lessons they teach us about ourselves. And she’ll pose entrancing philosophical questions: How do we define intelligence in another being? Where do "instinct" and "intelligence" meet and diverge? Both surprising and heartwarming, this book is one woman’s quest to understand the world’s smartest dogs—and how they got that way.

Zane Dupree is a charismatic 12-year-old boy of mixed race visiting a relative in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hits. Facing death, they are rescued from an attic air vent by a kind, elderly musician and a scrappy young girl--both African American. Learn to communicate with your dog—using their language “Good reading for dog lovers and an immensely useful manual for dog owners.”—The Washington Post An Applied Animal Behaviorist and dog trainer with more than twenty years’ experience, Dr. Patricia McConnell reveals a revolutionary new perspective on our relationship with dogs—sharing insights on how “man’s best friend” might interpret our behavior, as well as essential advice on how to interact with our four-legged friends in ways that bring out the best in them. After all, humans and dogs are two entirely different species, each shaped by its individual evolutionary heritage. Quite simply, humans are primates and dogs are canids (as are wolves, coyotes, and foxes). Since we each speak a different native tongue, a lot gets lost in the translation. This marvelous guide demonstrates how even the slightest changes in our voices and in the ways we stand can help dogs understand what we want. Inside you will discover: • How you can get your dog to come when called by acting less like a primate and more like a dog • Why the advice to “get dominance” over your dog can cause problems • Why “rough and tumble primate play” can lead to trouble—and how to play with your dog in ways that are fun and keep him out of mischief • How dogs and humans share personality types—and why most dogs want to live with benevolent leaders rather than “alpha wanna-bes!” Fascinating, insightful, and compelling, The Other End of the Leash is a book that strives to help you connect with your dog in a completely new way—so as to enrich that most rewarding of relationships.

You Had Me At Pet Nat written by Rachel Signer and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

"It was Rachel's dream to be that girl: the one smoking hand-rolled cigarettes out the French windows of her 19th-century Parisian studio apartment, wearing second-hand Isabel Marant jeans and sipping a glass of Beaujolais redolent of crushed roses with a touch of horse mane. Instead she was an under-appreciated freelance journalist and waitress in Brooklyn, frustrated at always being broke and completely miserable in love. When she tastes her first pétillant-naturel (pét nat), a type of natural wine made with no additives or chemicals, it set her on a journey of self-discovery, both deeply personal and professional, that led her to Paris and eventually deep into the wilds of south Australia, where she fell in love with someone completely different from what she thought she wanted-"Wildman." She is forced to ask herself the hard question: can she really handle the unconventional life she claims she truly wants? The discovery of natural wine became an introduction to a larger ethos and philosophy that Rachel had long craved: one rooted in egalitarianism, diversity, organics, environmental concerns, and ancient traditions. In You Had Me at Pét Nat, as Rachel begins to truly understand these revolutionary wine producers upending the industry, their deep commitment to making their wine with integrity and with as little intervention as possible, she is smacked with the realization that unless she faces, head-on, her own issues with commitment, she will not be able to live a life that is as freewheeling, unpredictable, and singular as the wine she loves"--
