This descriptive study, a partial replication of a study by Reimer (1985), was designed to determine (a) how patients describe their nocturnal sleep while in a hospital, (b) how patients compare their nocturnal sleep in a hospital with nocturnal sleep at home, and (c) what patients perceive as helpful and not helpful in facilitating nocturnal sleep while in a hospital. Results indicated that patients' hospital sleep patterns were significantly different from their home sleep patterns.
