This book is based on my 19 years' experience in the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a counterintelligence specialist from 1985 to 2004. It provides an insider view in the FBI's counterintelligence and counterterrorism efforts leading up to the September 11th terrorist attacks and FBI management's response. It describes my experiences with Special Agent Robert Hanssen and Earl Pitts, two FBI Supervisory Special Agents who were arrested for espionage and how FBI Management dealt with the issue. Finally, it describes issues of mismanagement, waste and abuse of resources, serious security issues and my attempts to report them up through the FBI's chain of command to no avail, eventually being asked to testify to the Senate Oversight Committee. It offers an explanation on why the FBI has had so many problems and some of the changes which have been made since the September 11th attacks. There is also a need for accountability within the government and laws to protect individuals who report abuse and mismanagement.
