The Author's experience with people and animals gave her a deeper insight and inspiration in writing; this has given rise to many of her characters in The Adventures of Drongie the Smidget. This fantastic tale, embellished with original colorful drawings, tells the stories of an imaginary being who meets numerous friends on his way, where loyalty, friendship and courage unite everyone in search of a common purpose: the perennial struggle between good and evil. Will our Drongie succeed in his intent to bring good to the world? A story set in nature, where everything is balanced, where every creature responds to a precise supernatural and magical design. Glendyr Stavrou spent her childhood years in the mountain kingdom of Lesotho spending every free moment on the backs of her beloved horses, exploring the countryside around Maseru. Boarding school at ten years old, was a hardship she never quite fitted into and yearned for the holidays. She and her husband Leandros lived for many years in the midlands of Kwazulu Natal, where they spent hours on horseback in the Pine forests which fed her lively imagination, always dancing new pictures and stories into her head. She started writing poems as a teenager and progressed to songwriting, choosing a career in music as a classical guitar performer and teacher. Glendyr and Leandros have two grown up sons, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. They have recently begun a new adventure and relocated to the quiet coastal village of Pennington KZN where her writing desk looks out to the not too far distant ocean view.

Alexander Smidget can't catch a break! Sure, he's the smallest kid in sixth grade. Sure, he's in love with the beautiful and popular Sandy Empelschmidt. And sure, he just happens to be the target of every bully around including the evil gym teacher. But when the mysterious Dr. Greenman comes to town with a cabinet full of strange concoctions, Alex wonders if things are about to change for the better. Thanks to the doctor's glowing green Growth Elixir, Alex may finally be able to stand up to the school bullies and impress Sandy. That is, until the elixir's bizarre side effects kick in! With the help of his new friends, Fumi and Ricky, Alex must find an antidote before the next full moon; otherwise, he may end up the biggest, scariest kid the town of Butterdale has ever seen. Whether he's belching slimy stink bubbles, eating weeds from a lake, being shot at by farmers, or sleeping in a tree-Alex will need a lot of help to make it to summer vacation in one piece. They say be careful what you wish for, and as this twelve-year-old will soon discover, wishing to be bigger can have some sizable problems... monstrous ones even!

Philosophical Essays Volume 1 written by Scott Soames and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

The two volumes of Philosophical Essays bring together the most important essays written by one of the world's foremost philosophers of language. Scott Soames has selected thirty-one essays spanning nearly three decades of thinking about linguistic meaning and the philosophical significance of language. A judicious collection of old and new, these volumes include sixteen essays published in the 1980s and 1990s, nine published since 2000, and six new essays. The essays in Volume 1 investigate what linguistic meaning is; how the meaning of a sentence is related to the use we make of it; what we should expect from empirical theories of the meaning of the languages we speak; and how a sound theoretical grasp of the intricate relationship between meaning and use can improve the interpretation of legal texts. The essays in Volume 2 illustrate the significance of linguistic concerns for a broad range of philosophical topics--including the relationship between language and thought; the objects of belief, assertion, and other propositional attitudes; the distinction between metaphysical and epistemic possibility; the nature of necessity, actuality, and possible worlds; the necessary a posteriori and the contingent a priori; truth, vagueness, and partial definition; and skepticism about meaning and mind. The two volumes of Philosophical Essays are essential for anyone working on the philosophy of language.

conceptual, realist) theories of predication. Chapter IV.4 centers on an important class of expressions used for predication in connection with quantities: mass expressions. This chapter reviews the most well-known approaches to mass terms and the ontological proposals related to them. In addition to quantification and predication, matters of reference have constituted the other overriding theme for semantic theories in both philosophical logic and the semantics of natural languages. Chapter IV.5 of how the semantics of proper names and descrip presents an overview tions have been dealt with in recent theories of reference. Chapter IV.6 is concerned with the context-dependence of reference, in particular, with the semantics of indexical expressions. The topic of Chapter IV.7 is related to predication as it surveys some of the central problems of ascribing propositional attitudes to agents. Chap ter IV.8 deals with the analysis of the main temporal aspects of natural language utterances. Together these two chapters give a good indication of the intricate complexities that arise once modalities of one or the other sort enter on the semantic stage. in philosophical Chapter IV.9 deals with another well-known topic logic: presupposition, an issue on the borderline of semantics and prag matics. The volume closes with an extensive study of the Liar paradox and its many implications for the study of language (as for example, self reference, truth concepts and truth definitions).

Ecological Economics written by Michael Common and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-10-13 with Business & Economics categories.

Taking as its starting point the interdependence of the economy and the natural environment, this book provides a comprehensive introduction to the emerging field of ecological economics. The authors, who have written extensively on the economics of sustainability, build on insights from both mainstream economics and ecological sciences. Part I explores the interdependence of the modern economy and its environment, while Part II focuses mainly on the economy and on economics. Part III looks at how national governments set policy targets and the instruments used to pursue those targets. Part IV examines international trade and institutions, and two major global threats to sustainability - climate change and biodiversity loss. Assuming no prior knowledge of economics, this textbook is well suited for use on interdisciplinary environmental science and management courses. It has extensive student-friendly features including discussion questions and exercises, keyword highlighting, real-world illustrations, further reading and website addresses.
