The number of hours in a day is fixed, but the quantity and quality of energy available to us is not. This fundamental insight has the power to revolutionize the way you live. As Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz demonstrate in their groundbreaking New York Times bestseller, managing energy, not time, is the key to enduring high performance as well as to health, happiness, and life balance. Their Full Engagement Training System is grounded in twenty-five years of working with great athletes -- tennis champ Monica Seles and speed-skating gold medalist Dan Jansen, to name just two -- to help them perform more effectively under brutal competitive pressures. Now this powerful, step-by-step program will help you to: · Mobilize four key sources of energy · Balance energy expenditure with intermittent energy renewal · Expand capacity in the same systematic way that elite athletes do · Create highly specific, positive energy management rituals The Power of Full Engagement is a highly practical, scientifically based approach to managing your energy more skillfully. Youth and Family Services (YFS) are part of residential and group homes, schools, social service organizations, hospitals, and family court systems. YFS include prevention, education, positive youth development, foster care, child welfare, and treatment. As YFS has evolved advances in research have brought forth a host of promising new ideas that both complement and expand on the original underpinnings of strengths-based practice. Thriving on the Front Lines represents an articulation of these advancements. Thriving on the Front Lines explores the use of strengths-based practices with those who are "in the trenches," Youth Care Worker (YCWs). Commonly referred to as resident counselors, youth counselors, psychiatric technicians (psych techs), caseworkers, case managers, and house parents or managers, YCWs are on the "front lines," often providing services 24 hours a day. Thriving on the Front Lines is an up-to-date treatise on the pivotal role of YCWs and those who work day in and day out with youth to improve their well-being, relationships, and overall quality of life. Unique aspects of the strengths-based framework provided in Thriving on the Front Lines include: Strengths-based principles informed by five decades of research; Discussion of the importance of using real-time feedback to improve service outcomes and "how to" implement an outcome-orientation; Exploration of Positive Youth Development; Two chapters devoted entirely to strengths-based interventions; An in-depth discussion of how to improve effectiveness through deliberate practice; and, How to develop a strengths-based organizational climate.

I don't know why, but for some reason people find my one-two boilermaker punch of Kerouac and Hawkeye Pierce somewhat amusing. I'm a real prize. I lost my glamorous job as a professional drinker, I mean Washington lobbyist, after I won the war but lost the battle with a Lying Cheating Scum. The Wife kicked me to the curb, down the street and all the way out of town. Now I'm back in Hershey, Pennsylvania, the Bedford Falls I thought I had escaped. Just to prove I lost my mind, I go and fall for some sob story about a kid with leukemia and her family going broke, from a peaches and cream siren who distracted me with her allure. So I'm up against the biggest players with the deepest pockets, I don't have any plastic, and I'm not even getting paid. How am I supposed to buy people? Here's the thing: I kind of like the little girl, Rosa, held hostage by a bunch of greedy insurance industry bean counters. She's a fighter. And I hate it when my friends get jerked around by The Man. The players in this little drama will tell you they're not to blame. That it's not personal, it's just business. Look, I'm just a guy with a winning smile and a fabulous wardrobe, but I don't buy it. For me, it's always personal. I may not have a perfect record or always play by the rules, but when I'm in, I'm all the way in. And I'm not joking around anymore.
