Los nuevos estudios culturales reconocen hoy unánimemente la imposibilidad de investigar a fondo cualquier producción humana prescindiendo de su contexto neohistórico. En tal certeza la autora ubicada en el centro de la actual zona mercosureña, aporta en esta obra el resultado de largos años de investigación, para responder a inquietantes desafíos planteados por las nuevas modalidades integrativas, que nos obligan a ampliar las fronteras del nuestro propio imaginario: ¿Qué incidencia podrá tener sobre el pensamiento americano esta cuestión de la nueva apertura de fronteras y mercados? ¿Qué patrones de identificación sostienen el conjunto, frente a si mismo y a las otras culturas? ¿Cuáles son los códigos comunes y los núcleos temático-retóricos que particularizan sus expresiones? Estas son algunas de las cuestiones que la obra se plantea, tratando de resolverlas desde la indagación de los enclaves fundamentales del sector implicado, y mediante el análisis sociocrítico de algunas de sus producciones literarias consideradas como sintomáticas de sus procesos identitarios, tanto en la sincronía como en la diacronía.
