A growing number of people immigrants, refugees, asylum-seekers, displaced individuals, and families lead lives that transcend national boundaries. Often because of economic pressures, these individuals continually move through places, countries, and cultures, becoming exposed to unique risk and protective factors. Though migration itself has existed for centuries, the availability of fast and cheap transportation as well as today's sophisticated technologies and electronic communications have allowed transmigrants to develop transnational identities and relationships, as well as engage in transnational activities. Yet despite this new reality, social work has yet to establish the parameters of a transnational social work practice. In one of the first volumes to address social work practice with this emergent and often marginalized population, practitioners and scholars specializing in transnational issues develop a framework for transnational social work practice. They begin with the historical and environmental context of transnational practice and explore the psychosocial, economic, environmental, and political factors that affect at-risk and vulnerable transnational groups. They then detail practical strategies, supplemented with case examples, for working with transnational populations utilizing this population's existing strengths. They conclude with recommendations for incorporating transnational social work into the curriculum.

Die internationale und transnationale Dimension ist elementarer Bestandteil der Sozialen Arbeit als Profession und Disziplin. Anuscheh Farahat schlagt vor, die verfassungsrechtlichen Streitigkeiten um die Eurokrise als transnationale Solidaritatskonflikte zu verstehen. Diese Konflikte werfen schwerwiegende Legitimationsprobleme auf. Verfassungsgerichte konnen das destruktive Potential solcher gesellschaftlichen Grosskonflikte aber bannen. Dies gelingt, wenn sie die Verfassungen auch in der Krise fur unterschiedliche Deutungen und kritische Reflexion offen halten. Auf diese Weise kann die Normativitat von Verfassungen in der Krise verteidigt werden. Hierfur entwickelt Anuscheh Farahat einen Massstab und analysiert anhand dessen die Eurokrisen-Rechtsprechung ausgewahlter europaischer und nationaler Gerichte. Zentral fur eine europaische Konfliktbearbeitung ist es, die transnationale Dimension der Konflikte zu erkennen. Diese Uberlegungen helfen auch, aktuelle Solidaritatskonflikte in der EU zu bewaltigen.

In einer Ära ökonomischer Globalisierung, multimedialer Kommunikation und grenzüberschreitender Migration bestehen Städte zunehmend aus transnationalen Räumen, deren kulturelle, ökonomische und soziale Dynamik oft stärker von weit entfernten Orten beeinflusst wird als von ihrer unmittelbaren Umgebung. Welche Eigenschaften haben diese städtischen Orte, an denen sich die Lebenswirklichkeiten verschiedener sozialer und geografischer Räume vermischen? Das Bauhaus Kolleg VI 2004/2005 untersuchte am Beispiel von Berlin, Istanbul, Kolkata und Frankfurt, wie transnationale Beziehungen die Wahrnehmung und das Gesicht der Städte verändern.
