Integrating social development with social work education, this book meets a crucial need for social work educators, scholars, and students. Unlike theory works which list out the skills required for the practice of social work methods but do not enable development of these skills, this manual discusses concrete exercises for the development of method-linked skills. The book carries a continuous thread of discourse on how to develop interactive work ability in individuals to ensure holistic professional development. It facilitates the inculcation of professional and global competencies essential for a social worker in a student.

"Fieldwork is considered to be an integral part of social work education by all the schools of social work. It is a pity that the concept of fieldwork is presumed to be well-understood by all the schools. Manuals and prospectuses give descriptive statements about the importance of fieldwork without defining it. As it has turned out fieldwork, instead of being an integral part of social work education, has by and large, remained only as its peripheral activity. This book is a pioneering work, which would enable the teachers, students and social work practitioners to make use of theoretical knowledge in fieldwork. It will also help those in real-life situations requiring social intervention or assistance by individuals, groups or communities from a professional social worker, acquisition of skills in social work method through practice of theory, inculcation of appropriate attitudes and development of capacity for conceptualisation from practice. The book will prove to be an essential text for students, researchers, academicians and planners."

Introduction To A Social Worker written by The National Institute for Social Work Training and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-11-07 with Social Science categories.

Originally published in 1964, this was an introduction to social casework, that is social work with individuals and families. It was written for students at the beginning of their training and, while intended for the social worker, it would also prove useful to other students of the social sciences and interesting to the ordinary citizen who wanted to know what social work could offer either to people in trouble or to those who adopted it as a career. The book was both authoritative and up-to-date at the time, in a field in which methods of training had evolved quite rapidly. To this its origin bears witness: the preparatory work was done by Miss Florence Mitchell, an experienced social worker and teacher of social casework. The book was shaped in consultation with other practitioners and teachers, including Dr Younghusband and Miss K. M. Lewis of the National Institute whose work had done so much to shape modern methods of training. The first chapter gives a picture of people who need the social worker’s help. It is followed by a brief survey of methods, by three chapters of case studies and by a final chapter on social work in the social services. The book thus combines a philosophy with practical guidance.

First published in 1966, the original blurb read: Learning with the help of skilled practitioners is as essential in training for social work as for medicine and teaching. Where do students of social work go for field training and why? What is it hoped that they will learn through their experience? What responsibilities are they given and who guides their learning? Partnership between social workers and academic staff in working out these questions is considered at a critical time in the changing perspectives and expansion of social services. The staff of colleges and social agencies, students, and professional organizations have helped to produce the facts and views on which this survey is based.

Becoming A Social Worker written by Viviene E. Cree and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-01-22 with Medical categories.

This is a book about social workers and social work. It tells the story of the journey into and through social work of people from around the world living and working in social work today. We hear what has brought them into social work and what has kept them in it since. Their lively accounts demonstrate that commitment and passion remain at the heart of social work today. This new edition of Becoming a Social Worker is made up of entirely new stories. It describes what it is like to be a social worker in a range of different practice settings in different countries. While many of the narratives are from practitioners and educators who either grew up in, or came as adults to, the UK, half of the narratives explores the experiences of social workers and educators working in different parts of the world in countries as diverse as Australia and New Zealand, India and Bangladesh, Ireland, Sweden and Eastern Europe, Nigeria, the USA and Canada. The book ends with a commentary, which argues that social work is truly a global profession. Some of the contributors will be recognised as those who have played a key part in shaping social work over the years and they provide valuable insights into how the profession has developed over time. Other contributors, less well known but no less interesting, give a vivid account of the challenges that social work education and practice face, and the shared values that underpin social work wherever it is located. Social work is a demanding and difficult job that goes largely unseen within society. We only ever hear about social work and social workers when something goes wrong and a vulnerable adult or child is hurt. Becoming a Social Worker sets out to change that – to make social work visible, so that those considering a career in the caring professions across the world can make an informed choice about whether social work is the career for them.
