Todas estas simpatías definen múltiples categorías que tuvieron un importante efecto tanto sobre las sociedades receptoras, como sobre las posibilidades políticas de la hegemonía española. Este volumen estudia las diversas tipologías que definieron un fenómeno tan complejo, intangible en ocasiones, y que ha sido analizado sólo desde perspectivas aisladas, sin llegar a percibir su importancia histórica, prisionero en parte de la Leyenda Negra. Para ello se ha reunido un equipo de investigadores europeos y americanos cuyos textos permiten comprender la pluralidad del sentido político, territorial, cultural y social de este fenómeno.
