Körperbeschwerden ohne eindeutigen organischen Befund treten in der Allgemeinbevölkerung sehr häufig auf und stellen eine versorgungsmedizinische Herausforderung dar. Nach einer Übersicht über Störungsmodelle und -theorien zur Entstehung der somatoformen Störung und einer ausführlichen Darstellung des diagnostischen Vorgehens werden die Therapieprinzipien und Phasen der PISO-Intervention erläutert. Prinzipien dieser manualisierten Kurzzeittherapie sind u.a. das Entgegenbringen von Symptomverständnis, die individuelle Klärung interpersoneller Prozesse der Symptomentstehung und -aufrechterhaltung sowie die aktive Einbeziehung des Körpers, z.B. durch Entspannungselemente. In den Therapiephasen wird die Wahrnehmung von Körpersymptomen sowie der Zusammenhang mit Affekten und Beziehungsepisoden geschult. Es werden Strategien für den Umgang mit den Beschwerden entwickelt. Falldarstellungen illustrieren das therapeutische Vorgehen. Abschließend liefert der Band Informationen zur Effektivität des Verfahrens und geht auf Varianten der Durchführung ein. Das Vorgehen eignet sich für das ambulante und stationäre Setting und kann sowohl in der Einzel- als auch in der Gruppentherapie angewandt werden.
