This book is intended for &tudents, research engineers, and mathematicians interested in applications or numerical analysis. Pure analysts will also find some new problems to tackle. Most of the material can be understood by a reader with a relatively modest knowledge of differential and inte gral equations and functional analysis. Readers interested in stochastic optimization will find a new theory of prac tical . importance. Readers interested in problems of static and quasi-static electrodynamics, wave scattering by small bodies of arbitrary shape, and corresponding applications in geophysics, optics, and radiophysics will find explicit analytical formulas for the scattering matrix, polarizability tensor, electrical capacitance of bodies of an arbitrary shape; numerical examples showing the practical utility of these formulas; two-sided variational estimates for the pol arizability tensor; and some open problems such as working out a standard program for calculating the capacitance and polarizability of bodies of arbitrary shape and numerical calculation of multiple integrals with weak singularities. Readers interested in nonlinear vibration theory will find a new method for qualitative study of stationary regimes in the general one-loop passive nonlinear network, including stabil ity in the large, convergence, and an iterative process for calculation the stationary regime. No assumptions concerning the smallness of the nonlinearity or the filter property of the linear one-port are made. New results in the theory of nonlinear operator equations form the basis for the study.

Matric algebra is a mathematical abstraction underlying many seemingly diverse theories. Thus bilinear and quadratic forms, linear associative algebra (hypercomplex systems), linear homogeneous trans formations and linear vector functions are various manifestations of matric algebra. Other branches of mathematics as number theory, differential and integral equations, continued fractions, projective geometry etc. make use of certain portions of this subject. Indeed, many of the fundamental properties of matrices were first discovered in the notation of a particular application, and not until much later re cognized in their generality. It was not possible within the scope of this book to give a completely detailed account of matric theory, nor is it intended to make it an authoritative history of the subject. It has been the desire of the writer to point out the various directions in which the theory leads so that the reader may in a general way see its extent. While some attempt has been made to unify certain parts of the theory, in general the material has been taken as it was found in the literature, the topics discussed in detail being those in which extensive research has taken place. For most of the important theorems a brief and elegant proof has sooner or later been found. It is hoped that most of these have been incorporated in the text, and that the reader will derive as much plea sure from reading them as did the writer.

It is the organization and presentation of the material, however, which make the peculiar appeal of the book. This is no mere compendium of results--the subject has been completely reworked and the proofs recast with the skill and elegance which come only from years of devotion. --Bulletin of the American Mathematical Society The very clear and simple presentation gives the reader easy access to the more difficult parts of the theory. --Jahrbuch uber die Fortschritte der Mathematik In 1937, the theory of matrices was seventy-five years old. However, many results had only recently evolved from special cases to true general theorems. With the publication of his Colloquium Lectures, Wedderburn provided one of the first great syntheses of the subject. Much of the material in the early chapters is now familiar from textbooks on linear algebra. Wedderburn discusses topics such as vectors, bases, adjoints, eigenvalues and the characteristic polynomials, up to and including the properties of Hermitian and orthogonal matrices. Later chapters bring in special results on commuting families of matrices, functions of matrices--including elements of the differential and integral calculus sometimes known as matrix analysis, and transformations of bilinear forms. The final chapter treats associative algebras, culminating with the well-known Wedderburn-Artin theorem that simple algebras are necessarily isomorphic to matrix algebras. Wedderburn ends with an appendix of historical notes on the development of the theory of matrices, and a bibliography that emphasizes the history of the subject.

Factorization Of Matrix Functions And Singular Integral Operators written by Prof. Kevin F. Clancey and has been published by Birkhäuser this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-21 with Science categories.

A few years aga the authors started a project of a book on the theory of systems of one-dimensional singular integral equa tions which was planned as a continuation of the monograph by one of the authors and N. Ya. Krupnik ~~ concerning scalar equa tions. This set of notes was initiated as a chapter dealing with problems of factorization of matrix functions vis-a-vis appli cations to systems of singular integral equations. Working systematically onthischapter and adding along the way new points of view, new proofs and results, we finally saw that the material connected with factorizations is of independent interest and we decided to publish this chapter as aseparate volume. In fact, because of recent activity, the amount of material was quite large and we quickly learned that we cannot cover all of the results in complete detail. We have tried to include a represen tative variety of all kinds of methods, techniques, results and applications. Apart of the current work exposes results from the Russian literature which have never appeared in English translation. We have also decided to reflect some of the recent results which make interesting connections between factorization of matrix functions and systems theory. The field remains very active and many results and connec tions are still not weIl understood. These notes should be viewed as a stepping stone to further development. The authors hope that sometime they will return to complete their original plan.

Formalization Of Complex Analysis And Matrix Theory written by Zhiping Shi and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-08-10 with Mathematics categories.

This book discusses the formalization of mathematical theories centering on complex analysis and matrix theory, covering topics such as algebraic systems, complex numbers, gauge integration, the Fourier transformation and its discrete counterpart, matrices and their transformation, inner product spaces, and function matrices. The formalization is performed using the interactive theorem prover HOL4, chiefly developed at the University of Cambridge. Many of the developments presented are now integral parts of the library of this prover. As mathematical developments continue to gain in complexity, sometimes demanding proofs of enormous sizes, formalization has proven to be invaluable in terms of obtaining real confidence in their correctness. This book provides a basis for the computer-aided verification of engineering systems constructed using the principles of complex analysis and matrix theory, as well as building blocks for the formalization of more involved mathematical theories.

This volume, dedicated to Bernd Silbermann on his sixtieth birthday, collects research articles on Toeplitz matrices and singular integral equations written by leading area experts. The subjects of the contributions include Banach algebraic methods, Toeplitz determinants and random matrix theory, Fredholm theory and numerical analysis for singular integral equations, and efficient algorithms for linear systems with structured matrices, and reflect Bernd Silbermann's broad spectrum of research interests. The volume also contains a biographical essay and a list of publications. The book is addressed to a wide audience in the mathematical and engineering sciences. The articles are carefully written and are accessible to motivated readers with basic knowledge in functional analysis and operator theory.

Loewner S Theorem On Monotone Matrix Functions written by Barry Simon and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-08-29 with Mathematics categories.

This book provides an in depth discussion of Loewner’s theorem on the characterization of matrix monotone functions. The author refers to the book as a ‘love poem,’ one that highlights a unique mix of algebra and analysis and touches on numerous methods and results. The book details many different topics from analysis, operator theory and algebra, such as divided differences, convexity, positive definiteness, integral representations of function classes, Pick interpolation, rational approximation, orthogonal polynomials, continued fractions, and more. Most applications of Loewner’s theorem involve the easy half of the theorem. A great number of interesting techniques in analysis are the bases for a proof of the hard half. Centered on one theorem, eleven proofs are discussed, both for the study of their own approach to the proof and as a starting point for discussing a variety of tools in analysis. Historical background and inclusion of pictures of some of the main figures who have developed the subject, adds another depth of perspective. The presentation is suitable for detailed study, for quick review or reference to the various methods that are presented. The book is also suitable for independent study. The volume will be of interest to research mathematicians, physicists, and graduate students working in matrix theory and approximation, as well as to analysts and mathematical physicists.
