Excerpt from Songs of Seven Years An Introduction The heart baa thoughts too sacred for the tongue - Or, if at all the profane oracle Have leave to babble them, they must be said In riddles, as the secrets of old fanes Once unto men thus darkly were disclosed In the flawed mirror of such speech as mine. The curious foot, irreverent, presses now Among the fallen sacred columns old Of those mute temples; now within my breast The alien presences may take their way But hear no fateful voice or, if at all They hear, oft guess not what the sound implies. The sad, deep whispers of mysterious lips Are borne upon me - if ye hear, attend! About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This work began with the taking of notes on insights and observations derived from contemplation of the Bible, my own life, and the death of my sister. The writings were initially oriented toward the composition of a filmscript, whose purpose was to depict, abstractly, scenes common to the lives of all mankind from birth to death. In February of 1984, well over a year into this project, these lyrics began to pour forth from me. Three-quarters of them were finished before the end of the month. During this period of my life, I underwent an intense conversion to purity of soul. I immersed myself in the practice of all the artistic mediums, including painting and sculpture, poetry, music, dance, and drama. Striving to be an artist for Christ, my life became as a cross between graduate student, monk, and convict. This way of living and working continued for seven years and resulted in the creation of the large manuscript, Songs for Children of Light: Ten Albums of Lyrics, Music, Dance, and Drama. In this volume, I present the lyric portion of the project with accompanying illustrations. May the Light of the Spirit be with you as you read the words herein. James Kurt June 23, 1995

Alex is caught between two very different women. Sonia, his wife, is intelligent, beautiful, charming and ambitious and together they have established a successful architectural firm and a life of easy luxury. But in the background is Ivona, who is dull, plain and passive. The only thing she offers Alex is her love, unconditionally, which inspires in him a queasy mixture of repulsion and passion. Alex knows he must make a choice, but when Ivona becomes pregnant, life takes an unexpected turn which leaves him more puzzled than ever by the mysteries of desire.

Encyclopedia Of Great Popular Song Recordings written by Steve Sullivan and has been published by Scarecrow Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-04 with Music categories.

From John Philip Sousa to Green Day, from Scott Joplin to Kanye West, from Stephen Foster to Coldplay, The Encyclopedia of Great Popular Song Recordings, Volumes 1 and 2 covers the vast scope of its subject with virtually unprecedented breadth and depth. Approximately 1,000 key song recordings from 1889 to the present are explored in full, unveiling the stories behind the songs, the recordings, the performers, and the songwriters. Beginning the journey in the era of Victorian parlor balladry, brass bands, and ragtime with the advent of the record industry, readers witness the birth of the blues and the dawn of jazz in the 1910s and the emergence of country music on record and the shift from acoustic to electrical recording in the 1920s. The odyssey continues through the Swing Era of the 1930s; rhythm & blues, bluegrass, and bebop in the 1940s; the rock & roll revolution of the 1950s; modern soul, the British invasion, and the folk-rock movement of the 1960s; and finally into the modern era through the musical streams of disco, punk, grunge, hip-hop, and contemporary dance-pop. Sullivan, however, also takes critical detours by extending the coverage to genres neglected in pop music histories, from ethnic and world music, the gospel recording of both black and white artists, and lesser-known traditional folk tunes that reach back hundreds of years. This book is ideal for anyone who truly loves popular music in all of its glorious variety, and anyone wishing to learn more about the roots of virtually all the music we hear today. Popular music fans, as well as scholars of recording history and technology and students of the intersections between music and cultural history will all find this book to be informative and interesting.

Telling Stories Writing Songs written by Kathleen Hudson and has been published by University of Texas Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-07-05 with Music categories.

Willie Nelson, Joe Ely, Marcia Ball, Tish Hinojosa, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Lyle Lovett...the list of popular songwriters from Texas just goes on and on. In this collection of thirty-four interviews with these and other songwriters, Kathleen Hudson pursues the stories behind the songs, letting the singers' own words describe where their songs come from and how the diverse, eclectic cultures, landscapes, and musical traditions of Texas inspire the creative process. Conducted in dance halls, dressing rooms, parking lots, clubs-wherever the musicians could take time to tell their stories-the interviews are refreshingly spontaneous and vivid. Hudson draws out the songwriters on such topics as the sources of their songs, the influence of other musicians on their work, the progress of their careers, and the nature of Texas music. Many common threads emerge from these stories, while the uniqueness of each songwriter becomes equally apparent. To round out the collection, Hudson interviews Larry McMurtry and Darrell Royal for their perspectives as longtime friends and fans of Texas musicians. She also includes a brief biography and discography of each songwriter.

Literary Communication In Song Dynasty written by Wang Zhaopeng and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-02-29 with Literary Criticism categories.

Based on first-hand historical materials, this book explores the various aspects of literary communication during the Song Dynasty in China. The book investigates the single-channel dissemination of poetry and ci works, the dissemination of literary collections, the dissemination through wall inscriptions, the oral dissemination of Song ci, the remuneration and commercialization of literature in the Song Dynasty, the paths to fame for Song writers, the non-literary factors in the dissemination of literature and the dissemination of literary works through paintings and songs. The author provides insights into the six major questions in the study of literary communication: Who disseminates, where, how, what, to whom and the effects of dissemination. The author also seeks to provide detailed answers to the following questions. What was the role of female singers in both domestic and official entertainment? What were the costs and prices of the books? Who paid the authors? What methods did writers use to gain fame and social recognition? This work will be essential reading for scholars and students of Chinese studies, communication studies and media and cultural studies.
