Georgian England: Lord Grayton, close friend to King George III and Queen Charlotte, is master of the vast Rosewood Park Estate, some distance from London. A widower, Grayton falls in love with the headmistress of an orphanage. He petitions the King and Queen for permission to marry, but is forbidden to take a wife so far beneath his station. Rumor has it that the headmistress and her sister are the long-lost twins of royal English blood who disappeared as infants during the seven Years' War. The Queen investigates, looking for some magic regarding Grayton's martial wishes. Word of the investigation leaks out, resulting in palace intrigue, a ransom plot, twists, turns, thievery, and death. A broad spectrum of British life, from royalty to the simplest villager, is brought to life in this delightful, off-time witty novel. As insightful regarding class as Mark Twain's Prince and the Pauper.

Set in Georgian England, around 1750.Two English twins of royal birth (Sophie & Juliet) are kidnapped as infants and held in France. Their governess steals them back, and hides them in an orphanage in England. The twins grow up there, unaware of their origin. Sophie is renamed Jane. Juliet is renamed Anne. Jane becomes headmistress of the orphanage. Anne becomes a farmer's wife, and has a daughter Sarah. Lord Grayton, owner of the estate that includes the orphanage, falls in love with Jane. His son Henry falls in love with Sarah. Both would like to marry, but are prevented from doing so because of class. Grayton appeals to King George III and Queen Charlotte for permission to marry. The answer is no, but the Queen does enough sleuthing to identify the twin's royal origin. With that resolved, the love stories have a happy ending. Along the way are twists and turns, subplots, palace intrigue, and a foiled attempt at ransom. There are thieves, thugs, and defiance of His Majesty¿s will to the point of banishment from the realm. A broad spectrum of British characters is brought to life, from royalty to the simplest villager, and from the highest of kindness and thoughtfulness to the lowest debauchery.

The enduring cultural legacy of Shakespeare’s Juliet Capulet — a history "as vital and provocative as the character herself" (Literary Review). Romeo and Juliet may be the greatest love story ever told, but who is Juliet? Demure ingénue? Or dangerous Mediterranean madwoman? From tearstained copies of the First Folio to Civil War-era fanfiction, Shakespeare’s star-crossed heroine has long captured our collective imagination. Juliet is her story, traced across continents through four centuries of history, theatre, and film. As Oxford Shakespeare scholar Sophie Duncan reveals, Juliet’s legacy stretches beyond her literary lifespan into a cultural afterlife ranging from enslaved African girls in the British Caribbean to the real-life Juliets of sectarian violence in Bosnia and Belfast. She argues that our dangerous obsession with the beautiful dead teenager and Juliet’s meteoric rise as a defiant sexual icon have come to define the Western ideal of romance. Wry and inventive, Juliet is a tribute to fiction’s most famous teenage girl who died young, but who lives forever.

Falling For You written by Jill Mansell and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-02-10 with Fiction categories.

Jill Mansell's delicious bestseller FALLING FOR YOU is not to be missed by readers of Katie Fforde and Veronica Henry. Reviewers love Jill's novels: 'Glorious, romantic, heartwarming' Woman & Home Maddy Harvey was a bit of an ugly duckling as a teenager, what with her NHS specs, unfortunate hair and wonky teeth. Thankfully she's blossomed since then. But when she meets Kerr McKinnon one starry summer's night and discovers, days later, who he actually is... well, that's when the problems really start. Because everyone in Ashcombe knows what happened eleven years ago, and as far as her mother's concerned, Marcella would rather tear that family to pieces with her bare hands than see Maddy associate with a McKinnon. It's Romeo and Juliet all over again. Quick, hide those sharp knives and that little bottle of poison... What readers are saying about Falling For You: 'Completely unputdownable. Falling for You explores some extremely serious storylines but in a moving and sometimes humorous manner' Amazon reviewer, 5 stars 'Full of warmth and fun and wonderfully familiar, yet with a hint of surprise and suspense as well. Like her other books, this is charming and witty. Another winner from Jill Mansell' Amazon reviewer, 5 stars 'This book surprised me so much. Perfection. Beautifully written. Oh and the ending? Mind-blowing!' Goodreads reviewer, 5 stars
