La competencia en la industria de la transformación tanto nacional como internacional, obliga a las empresas a reducir sus tiempos de operación para lograr ser más competitivos y así permanecer en el mercado. La estrategia a seguir es procurar un alto estándar de calidad en todos sus procesos, tanto en la forma de administrar la empresa como mediante el uso sistemático de técnicas y herramientas que apoyen la toma de decisiones. Al utilizar herramientas computacionales y establecer interfaces electrónicas durante las etapas importantes del diseño de un molde para inyección de plástico, se obtendrán diseños de mayor calidad, con una mejor planeación y logística. Dichas interfaces deben contener tanto conocimiento científico como empírico y convertirse en la base electrónica que permita que el proceso de diseño se torne más eficiente. Se identificó la falta de estructuras de diseño para moldes de inyección de plástico, la falta de un soporte computacional que considere la automatización de los cálculos de los elementos clave. Se determinó que es necesario poner más énfasis en las estructuras de trabajo, así como hacer uso de las herramientas computacionales para obtener mayores beneficios en lo que respecta alárea del diseño y que es necesario tener al alcance más y mejores herramientas que faciliten y reduzcan los tiempos de diseño. Se obtuvieron siete formatos electrónicos y una rutina de autolisp que integran y documentan el conocimiento sobre los elementos claves en el diseño de moldes para inyección de plástico.
