Some wounds take a long time to heal, others never do. Four months after being wounded in the line of duty, Ryan Henderson is beginning to fear that his is of the latter variety. He's a patient man, but a poor patient. As winter drags interminably on, he's growing desperate for distraction--anything that might take his mind off his injury, before he goes insane. Siobhan Quinn could give the injured officer a lesson or two in living with pain. It's been ten years since her life was changed and her heart critically wounded as a result of the tragic accident that robbed her of her family. She knows firsthand how grief can cripple a soul and drive a sane mind over the edge. Sometimes it seems like Spring will never come again. Sometimes, the only alternative to living in inner darkness, is death. Your own, or someone else's. In the depths of winter, Ryan and Siobhan will have to make a choice: to help each other heal, or die trying.

Morris Magellan wakes one morning to find himself stuck in a corporate job and living the suburban dream with a wife and two children, except this dream feels like a nightmare. Out of his depth and starting to drift from reality, we meet Morris at the precipice. Bit by bit he is losing his struggle with addiction – he just doesn't know it yet. His only solace and escape from suburban family life and corporate duties is music and alcohol. His life is soundtracked with symphonies and concertos, every note, and every drink, carries him from moment to moment hoping to salvage something of himself before that too slips from his grasp. Harrowing but compellingly written, with humour and compassion, The Sound of My Voice is a stylistic masterpiece that presents conflict between a man's cowardice and cruelty, and a desperate attempt to recover his humanity.

Singing The Body Electric The Human Voice And Sound Technology written by Miriama Young and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-03-03 with Music categories.

Singing the Body Electric explores the relationship between the human voice and technology, offering startling insights into the ways in which technological mediation affects our understanding of the voice, and more generally, the human body. From the phonautograph to magnetic tape and now to digital sampling, Miriama Young visits particular musical and literary works that define a century-and-a-half of recorded sound. She discusses the way in which the human voice is captured, transformed or synthesised through technology. This includes the sampled voice, the mechanical voice, the technologically modified voice, the pliable voice of the digital era, and the phenomenon by which humans mimic the sounding traits of the machine. The book draws from key electro-vocal works spanning a range of genres - from Luciano Berio's Thema: Omaggio a Joyce to Radiohead, from Alvin Lucier's I Am Sitting in a Room, to Björk, and from Pierre Henry's Variations on a Door and a Sigh to Christian Marclay's Maria Callas. In essence, this book transcends time and musical style to reflect on the way in which the machine transforms our experience of the voice. The chapters are interpolated by conversations with five composers who work creatively with the voice and technology: Trevor Wishart, Katharine Norman, Paul Lansky, Eduardo Miranda and Bora Yoon. This book is an interdisciplinary enterprise that combines music aesthetics and musical analysis with literature and philosophy.

Sound Effects The Object Voice In Fiction written by and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-09-01 with Literary Criticism categories.

Sound Effects combines literary criticism and psychoanalytic theory in eleven original articles which explore the potential of the object voice as an analytic tool to approach fiction. Alongside the gaze, the voice is Jacques Lacan’s original addition to the set of partial objects of classical psychoanalysis, and has only recently been theorised by Mladen Dolar in A Voice and Nothing More (2006). With notable exceptions like Garrett Stewart’s Reading Voices (1990), the sonorous element in fiction has received little scholarly attention in comparison with poetry and drama. Sound Effects is a contribution to the burgeoning field of sound studies, and sets out to fill this gap through selective readings of English and American fiction of the last two hundred years. Contributors: Fred Botting, Natalja Chestopalova, Mladen Dolar, Matt Foley, Alex Hope, Phillip Mahoney, Sylvia Mieszkowski, Jorge Sacido-Romero, Marcin Stawiarski, Garrett Stewart, Peter Weise, and Bruce Wyse.

Our first-born son, Andrew, was delivered by Linda after twenty-six hard hours of labor. She was so exhausted after the ordeal that the nurse handed our new boy to me. He was screaming for all he was worth, and I was feeling quite clueless as to how to calm him. Instinctively, I began speaking to him, and was surprised that as soon as he heard me, he quieted down and looked me straight in the eye. I decided to test the phenomenon. I stopped speaking, and he started crying. I spoke, and he became still. He had heard my voice through the walls of his mom's tummy for months, and recognized it. He didn't understand a word I said, but the sound of my voice comforted him. I think God was showing me something important. Once you get to know your Father's Voice, you can hear it in the midst of clamor, and no other voice will do. God speaks with a Voice, and wants to tell His stories and give His directions up close and personal. Like any one of us who speaks, He wants to be heard. When our first parents stumbled in the Garden, the first thing they lost was a love for the Sound of His Voice. But God Himself also suffered a most painful loss. Fellowship and the most sublime communication in history were lost. He created Man and Woman for an intimacy of fellowship between them and Him that is still in process of recovery. There are thousands of Christian how-to books, and no doubt many on how to hear from God. This is not one of them. The Sound of His Voice is not meant to be an application, but a revelation . . . not an interpretation, but an inspiration . . . not something for you to do to attain it, but something for your heart to hear, and let Him explain it. This is not a how-to manual, butan impulse of poise to your spirit to hear a still, small Voice, sometimes no louder than a water drop, in the midst of clamor from Earth and Hell. Don't read this in hurry. Don't read it for answers. Don't read it to find a solution. Read it because hearing the Sound of His Voice is a dream that can come true, and you still have a glimmer of hope that you will hear it on this side of eternity.
