Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2002 im Fachbereich Soziologie - Politik, Majoritäten, Minoritäten, Note: 1,7, Universität Mannheim (Fakultät für Sozialwissenschaften), Veranstaltung: Proseminar: Demokratie und Religion, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Das Ende der Solidarität wird seit einigen Jahren von Politik- und Sozialwissenschaftlern, sowie von führenden Persönlichkeiten aus Politik und Gesellschaft genauso prognostiziert wie eine Gesellschaft der Individualisten und Egoisten. Sogar von einem „egoistischen Hyperindividualismus“ (Heitmeyer, zitiert nach Braun 2001:345) ist die Rede. Zurückgeführt werden diese vermeintlichen Entwicklungen stetst auf den Rückgang des sozialen Engagements der Bevölkerung und dem geringeren Interesse an gemeinschaftlichen Themen. Selbst für die aufkommende Politikverdrossenheit vieler Bürger wird die Ursache in dem Fall des Sozialkapitals gesehen. Auch wenn eine andere Seite einen solchen Niedergang des sozialen Engagements nicht entdeckt, sondern auf neue Formen verweist (Offe 1999: 113), so gilt das soziale Kapital doch als „Kitt der Gesellschaft“, sozusagen als Patentrezept, um eine solche Entwicklung rechtzeitig stoppen zu können (Braun 2001: 347). Bevor aber eine Diskussion über Stellenwert und Wirkung des Sozialkapitals sinnvoll geführt werden kann, muss untersucht werden, was Sozialkapital überhaupt ist und wie sich diese Größe zusammensetzt. Dies werde ich im ersten Teil meiner Hausarbeit versuchen. Anschließend werde ich meine Betrachtung auf die wichtigste Komponente des sozialen Kapitals, die Beteiligung in sozialen Vereinigungen in der Bundesrepublik, konzentrieren, um zu analysieren, inwiefern sich eine solche Partizipation auf das Sozialkapital und damit auf die Gesellschaft auswirkt. Dabei werde ich die religiöse Teilnahme besonders betrachten, da sie Thema des Seminars war und als Sonderform gelten kann. Am Ende werde ich schließlich versuchen, die Kritik am Konzept des Sozialkapitals herauszuarbeiten und zu prüfen, wie es um den Be-stand des Sozialkapitals in Deutschland steht.
