Mit welcher Logik lassen sich der spontane Ausbruch, sowie der lawinenartige Verlauf der Demonstrationen im Oktober erklären? Es wird darauf eingegangen, unter welchen Umständen vereinzelter Widerstand in kurzer Zeit zu massenhaften Demonstrationen führte. Dazu soll insbesondere der steile Anstieg der Protestierenden während der Leipziger Demonstrationen rückblickend erläutert werden. Um die Entscheidungssituation der Akteure darzustellen, wird das Modell von Bernhard Prosch und Martin Abraham verwendet. Da eine Erklärung nach einem Makro-Mikro-Makro Schema erfolgt, werden ein Abriss der wichtigsten Ereignisse vor dem Umbruch und deren kausale Wirkunken dargelegt. Die Arbeit beinhaltet eine Zusammenführung verschiedener Erklärungsmodelle für den Verlauf des steilen Anstiegs der Teilnehmerzahlen. Kritische Betrachtungen mit Hinblick auf die Interpretationen von Schwellenmodellen bezüglich der Schwellenwertverteilung und Schwellenwertgrenzen von Modellen werden ebenfalls integriert. Dabei werden die Ereignisse in Leipzig herangezogen, um exemplarisch analysiert zu werden. Der Verlauf der friedlichen Revolution in der ehemaligen DDR im Jahr 1989 erreichte ein Resultat, dessen Folgen auch umfassende Veränderungen für die BRD bedeuteten. Ebenso änderte sich auch die weltpolitische Lage auf gravierende Weise, vor allem zwischen den Großmächten USA und Sowjetunion. Die Vereinigung Deutschlands durch eine friedliche Revolution ausgelöst, bewirkte also Zäsuren auf nationaler, europäischer und globaler Ebene. In dieser Arbeit werden die Ausdrücke Umbruch, Wende, oder Revolution trotz unterschiedlicher Konnotationen synonym verwendet. Die Ausdrücke SEU-Modell, Wert/Erwartungsmodell, sowie Kosten/Nutzenmodell werden ebenfalls gleichbedeutend gebraucht.
