Mobile Robots Navigation written by Luis Payá and has been published by MDPI this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-13 with Technology & Engineering categories.

The presence of mobile robots in diverse scenarios is considerably increasing to perform a variety of tasks. Among them, many developments have occurred in the fields of ground, underwater, and flying robotics. Independent of the environment where they move, navigation is a fundamental ability of mobile robots so that they can autonomously complete high-level tasks. This problem can be efficiently addressed through the following actions: First, it is necessary to perceive the environment in which the robot has to move, and extract some relevant information (mapping problem). Second, the robot must be able to estimate its position and orientation within this environment (localization problem). With this information, a trajectory toward the target points must be planned (path planning), and the vehicle must be reactively guided along this trajectory considering either possible changes or interactions with the environment or with the user (control). Given this information, this book introduces current frameworks in these fields (mapping, localization, path planning, and control) and, in general, approaches to any problem related to the navigation of mobile robots, such as odometry, exploration, obstacle avoidance, and simulation.

The best of ground control technology, 40 years in the making. Developments in Ground Control summarizes the objectives, methodology used, and major conclusions reached from papers presented and published in the International Conference on Ground Control in Mining (ICGCM) proceedings from 1981 to 2020. Because the subject areas of the papers published in the proceedings are so broad, ranging from accident training and coal/rock bursts to geology, pillar, multiseam mining, in situ stresses, roof falls, and roof supports to surface subsidence, the papers were grouped into 13 aggregate topics and addressed separately in 13 book chapters by 13 authors from 4 countries. These book chapters are a fresh look at the topics, providing new insights, sourcing older papers, and summarizing data. This is an enormous help for those seeking information on ground control. There were 1,795 papers in the 40 years of ICGCM proceedings in more than 40 ground control topical areas. It would certainly be very time consuming if not impossible to find the right papers of interest in a timely manner. This book makes it easy for interested people to find the progress, application, and achievements of certain techniques from the past 40 years and how they affected the field of ground control and the world mining industry, in particular, the United States. Generally speaking, most researchers tend to favor recent developments when performing a literature search, ignoring or considering old papers outdated. In contrast, over the last 40 years, most research findings for a specific topic in ICGCM received continuing attention for subsequent development or repeated citations if applications were successful.

Cognitive Aspects Of Human Computer Interaction For Gis written by Dieter Fritsch and has been published by MDPI this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-10-04 with Computers categories.

The book is dealing with recent progress in human–computer interaction (HCI) related to geographic information science (GIS). The Editorial starts with an overview about the evolution of the Internet and first HCI concepts and stimulates recent HCI developments using 3D and 4D apps, running on all mobile devices with OS Android, iOS, Linus, and Windows. Eight research articles present the state-of-the-art in HCI–GIS-related issues, starting with gender and age differences in using indoor maps via the estimation of building heights from space to an efficient visualization method for polygonal data with dynamic simplification. The review article deals with progress and challenges on entity alignment of geographic knowledge bases.

The worlds synthesized in the cyberspaces of networked computers are the theme of Cyberworlds. Cyberspaces have come into prominence with the de velopment of the Internet and are expected to expand drastically with the emergence of national and international information systems. The purpose is to discover the architecture and design of cy of the book Cyberworlds berworlds by synthesizing worlds in cyberspaces. The underlying philosophy is crucial to the success of the architecture, and an initial effort is made to delineate it at the beginning of the book. The book's topics are selected to clarify the issues of the philosophy, architecture, and design of cyberworlds through a wide variety of case studies. The approach presented in the book is thus characterized as synthetic rather than analytic. There already are numbers of books with observations and analyses of cyberworlds. They warn of the danger of widespread crimes and accidents in the cyberworlds, for instance. Without a philosophy and methodologies of how to architecturally design and synthesize the cyber worlds, the worlds in cyberspaces tend to be arbitrarily extended, disordered, and, in extreme cases, criminal. This book is intended to benefit readers by providing them with a possible direction to take in deciding how to synthesize worlds in cyberspaces. Cre ating new worlds in new spaces with almost unlimited dimension and scale is an immense challenge. In principle, anyone at any moment can participate in the creation. The book serves as a creator's reference and also as a design guidebook.

The LNCS journal Transactions on Computational Science reflects recent developments in the field of Computational Science, conceiving the field not as a mere ancillary science but rather as an innovative approach supporting many other scientific disciplines. The journal focuses on original high-quality research in the realm of computational science in parallel and distributed environments, encompassing the facilitating theoretical foundations and the applications of large-scale computations and massive data processing. It addresses researchers and practitioners in areas ranging from aerospace to biochemistry, from electronics to geosciences, from mathematics to software architecture, presenting verifiable computational methods, findings, and solutions, and enabling industrial users to apply techniques of leading-edge, large-scale, high performance computational methods. This, the 36th issue of the Transactions on Computational Science, is devoted to the area of Cyberworlds and Cybersecurity. The first four papers constitute extended versions of selected papers presented at the 2018 International Conference on Cyberworlds, CW 2018. A further two papers were accepted following an open Call for Papers and cover the areas of fast 3D segmentation using geometric surface features and nature-inspired optimization for face recognition.

Assessment Of Treatment Plant Performance And Water Quality Data A Guide For Students Researchers And Practitioners written by Marcos von Sperling and has been published by IWA Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-01-15 with Science categories.

This book presents the basic principles for evaluating water quality and treatment plant performance in a clear, innovative and didactic way, using a combined approach that involves the interpretation of monitoring data associated with (i) the basic processes that take place in water bodies and in water and wastewater treatment plants and (ii) data management and statistical calculations to allow a deep interpretation of the data. This book is problem-oriented and works from practice to theory, covering most of the information you will need, such as (a) obtaining flow data and working with the concept of loading, (b) organizing sampling programmes and measurements, (c) connecting laboratory analysis to data management, (e) using numerical and graphical methods for describing monitoring data (descriptive statistics), (f) understanding and reporting removal efficiencies, (g) recognizing symmetry and asymmetry in monitoring data (normal and log-normal distributions), (h) evaluating compliance with targets and regulatory standards for effluents and water bodies, (i) making comparisons with the monitoring data (tests of hypothesis), (j) understanding the relationship between monitoring variables (correlation and regression analysis), (k) making water and mass balances, (l) understanding the different loading rates applied to treatment units, (m) learning the principles of reaction kinetics and reactor hydraulics and (n) performing calibration and verification of models. The major concepts are illustrated by 92 fully worked-out examples, which are supported by 75 freely-downloadable Excel spreadsheets. Each chapter concludes with a checklist for your report. If you are a student, researcher or practitioner planning to use or already using treatment plant and water quality monitoring data, then this book is for you! 75 Excel spreadsheets are available to download.
