English summary: This second volume of essays by Johannes Wallmann contains 20 individual studies of the church history of the 17th and 18th centuries, particularly of the history of pietism and primarily of Jakob Spener, the founder of pietism. The essays selected for this work deal with various subjects but in their entirety they show pietism in a new light. The subjects range from the concept of piety, the piety crisis in the 17th century, the understanding of the Bible, prayer as a form of pietistic spiritual welfare, the relationship between pietism and spiritualism and pietism and Tridentine Catholicism and the relationship between pietism and Prussianism. Special attention is paid to the attitude of pietism towards Judaism.

This classic work, first published in 1675, inaugurated the movement in Germany called Pietism. In it a young pastor, born and raised during the devastating Thirty Years War, voiced a plea for reform of the church which made the author and his proposals famous. A lifelong friend of the philosopher Leibnitz, Spener was an important influence in the life of the next leader of German Pietism, August Herman Francke. He was also a sponsor at the baptism of Nicholas Zinzendorf, founder of the Moravian Church, whose members played a crucial role in the life of John Wesley.

The Reformation Of The Dead written by C. Koslofsky and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-10-21 with History categories.

Koslofsky examines the human encounter with death in Germany from the eve of the Reformation to the rise of Pietism. The Protestant Reformation transformed the funeral more profoundly than any other ritual of the traditional church. Luther's doctrine of salvation 'by faith alone' made the foundation of the traditional funeral, intercession for the dead in Purgatory, obsolete. By drawing on anthropological interpretations of death ritual, this study explores the changing relationships between the body, the soul, the living and the dead in the daily life of early modern Germany.

Studies In Classical Pietism written by Harry Yeide and has been published by Peter Lang Incorporated, International Academic Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997 with History categories.

The classical phase of pietism, which lasted in Germany from 1670 through 1780, constitutes a vital chapter in the history of Christianity. Pietists perfected a particular organizational form, the ecclesiola in ecclesia - the little church within the Church. They then used this form to initiate many innovations in missions, social service, education, and ecumenical activity. Studies in Classical Pietism carefully analyzes the ecclesiola and displays its power in the work of six pietist leaders beginning with Philip Jakob Spener.
