Homo Ludens written by Johan Huizinga and has been published by Beacon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1971-06-01 with Social Science categories.

An essential reference for all game designers, this 1938 classic is “a fascinating account of ‘man the player’ and the contribution of play to civilization” (Harper’s). In this classic evaluation of play that has become a “must-read” for those in game design, Dutch philosopher Johan Huizinga defines play as the central activity in flourishing societies. Like civilization, play requires structure and participants willing to create within limits. Starting with Plato, Huizinga traces the contribution of Homo Ludens, or “man the player” through Medieval Times, the Renaissance, and into our modern civilization. Huizinga defines play against a rich theoretical background, using cross-cultural examples from the humanities, business, and politics. Homo Ludens defines play for generations to come.

According to Roger Caillois, play is an occasion of pure waste. In spite of this - or because of it - play constitutes an essential element of human social and spiritual development. In this study, the author defines play as a free and voluntary activity that occurs in a pure space, isolated and protected from the rest of life.

Handbook Of European Societies written by Stefan Immerfall and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-12-01 with Social Science categories.

European integration is one of the most ambitious and socially far-reaching developments in world politics and in world economics. Against growing opposition and despite increasing social heterogeneity, the European Union continues to expand and to acquire new competences. But to what extent is the self-proclaimed "ever closer union among the peoples of Europe" a social reality? In which ways is the political European project anchored in social developments? How does social change impinge upon political integration? Societal trends in multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, multi-lingual and socially diverse Europe have never been studied systematically. Handbook of European Societies: Social Transformations in the 21st Century sets to rectify this neglect of societal developments in Europe, providing a groundwork for the sociology of European integration. The book portrays social life and social relations in the enlarged Europe, and gives a perspective on the European Union as an evolving social entity. Handbook of European Societies is a pioneering source book analyzing the current social patterns on the continent. It covers a representative selection of major topics of social concern and sociological relevance, such as Collective Action, Consumption, Identity, Power Structure, Sexuality, Stratification and Well-being. Each contribution probes key developments in a strictly comparative manner. The Handbook thus offers a detailed look into the intricacies of the national societies of Europe and into the prospect of an emerging European society. The Editors have enlisted leading researchers to synthesize existing knowledge and to make use of many different data sources in a straight-forward style. The contributions stay away from jargon, simple labeling and sweeping assertions. Instead, they provide solid and accessible information on a wide variety of social trends and processes within and across European societies.

In 1954 Drs. Thigpen adn Cleckley wrote a technical article, "A Case of Multiple Personality", for the Journal of Abnormal and Social Psychology. This appeared before they had completed the work on the case. The Three Faces of Eve is an extension of that collaboration - a complete account of this extraordinary case which is likely to engage the lay reader's interest as vividly as that of physicians and professional workers in psychology and sociology. Eve White was a shy, saintly housewife and mother. Eve Black was a coarse, seductive beauty with a passion for drinking, dancing and the company of strangers. Jane was the third Eve. She was a mature, poised woman - but her tormented soul held the key to Eve's deepest mystery. They were all one woman - and they were all unlike the Eve that finally emerged. --Google Books

Facilitating children's and adolescents' growth has been a challenge and major concern for person-centred work since the beginning of the approach in the 1940's. During the past decade, a shift in this domain has generated numerous new concepts, research and practice, making a considerable impact on both the professional tasks and training of educators, counsellors, and psychotherapists. Fifteen original chapters and a foreword from Brian Thorne describe this development. The chapters began as presentations from a symposium at the Potsdam PCE 2006 World Association conference, thus reflecting international perspectives emerging around the world today. Framed by two chapters from the editors, the book provides a comprehensive overview of state-of-the-art person-centred work with children, adolescents and parents, and identifies emerging themes in the field.

Family Assessment written by Manfred Cierpka and has been published by Hogrefe Publishing GmbH this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-07-01 with Psychology categories.

This book on family assessment integrates psychodynamic and systemic perspectives in a unique way. U.S. and European authors draw from both perspectives and integrate their cultural backgrounds. In this book the family is evaluated on three levels: the individuals, the dyads and triads, and the family system. Interwoven with clinical examples, the first part discusses the importance of the initial interview, from the first contact with a family to goal setting and treatment planning. The second part presents the various clinical perspectives that underlie the three-level model. These perspectives include the family's contextual factors such as its stage in the family life cycle, its social world, and related areas such as parenting styles and behavior. Finally, the third part presents some clinical applications focusing on the use of family sculpting procedures as assessment tools. This family assessment book is a true integration of theoretical perspectives and international expertise, edited and written by leading family assessment researchers from the United States and Europe.
