Author, playwright, and poet, Trisha Sugarek has been writing for four decades. Until recently her writing had focused on stage plays (Publisher: Samuel French, Inc.) that ranged from prison stories to children's fables. She has expanded her body of work to include two books of poetry, a group of children's books and her debut novel, "Women Outside the Walls". Newly released, a series "ShortN'Small" short plays, small casts which are used in classrooms in this country and internationally. She has enjoyed a thirty year career in theatre as an actor and director. Originally from Seattle, she has worked in theatres from coast to coast and her plays have been produced across the country and abroad. Stanley, a young dragon has run away from home. He feels that he is a failure. As dragons go, he probably is. He's kind, soft spoken, a good friend and cannot, for the life of him, breathe FIRE! Emma, an earthling girl, plays in the woodland forest next to her farm. The loveable villain is a raven named City Slick, the Third. A lady bug, named Persnickety is Stanley's best friend and side kick. Thomas, the sea turtle, and Cheets, the elf, are just a few of Stanley's new friends. Slick lures Stanley away from the forest and sells him to a circus. It is Donald, a faerie, and Emma's quest to find Stanley and rescue him. The fable addresses bigotry and kindness to others even though they might be different from us. While this is an adventure story and full of laughter, it teaches children that no matter what, it is never a good idea to run away from home and is frequently very dangerous.

There is evidence that shows that dragon like creatures did roam the earth and science is still uncovering many artifacts that show that there might have been many different species. Whether some consider them flying or roaming dinosaurs or if they were actually dragons is a matter of expert opinion. I became interested in dragons when a good friend and I were talking about them when I was in the 4th grade. From there I started studying scientific data and collecting stuffed replicas. Now I enjoy sharing what I have learned and putting a personality on my characters.

One visiting day something happens that will change each of their lives forever as the visiting room erupts with violence and heartbreak. This story is based in truth and was inspired while the author was at the Dixon Correctional Facility in Dixon, Illinois, waiting to visit a confessed murderer. It was heart breaking to observe the women and children waiting to see their husbands, fathers, sons and brothers who might be incarcerated for a few months or for life.
