Knjiga obravnava izjemen družbeno-političen in okoljsko-religiozen fenomen.

Incantations are in Europe well spread folklore genre, which contain very old magical elemrnts. The book covers wide spectrum of regions, from United Kingdom to Russia and Iran, and includes also Slovenia. The researchers have devoted their attention to phenomenological and theoretical studies of incantatio, and have discussed various topics, from the origin of charms and ancient European magical practices, to the receptions and diffusions of different types of charms. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Knjiga ('Zagovori in zagovarjanje: Študije o magičnem v vsakdanjem življenju') je skupno delo osemnajstih uglednih evropskih raziskovalcev verbalne magije in zdravljenja z zagovori. Zagovori so v Evropi še vedno razširjen žanr in vsebujejo zelo stare elemente magije. Poleg pestrega metodološkega spektra zaobjemajo študije tudi široko geografsko območje: od Anglije do Rusije in Irana, vključujejo tudi Slovenijo.

Body Soul Spirits And Supernatural Communication written by Éva Pócs and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-02 with Soul categories.

This book provides a nuanced picture of the notions of body and soul held by the peoples of Europe through the soul concepts associated with the Judeo-Christian tradition and other religions and denominations; and the alternative traditions preserved alongside Christianity in folklore collections, linguistic and literary records. The studies also emphasize the connections between these notions and beliefs related to death and the dead, as well as questions of communication between the human world and the spirit world. The essays here focus on the roles notions of the soul and the spirit world play in the everyday life, religion and mentality of various communities; their folklore and literary representations, as well as the narrative metaphors, motifs, topoi and genres of ideas about the soul and about supernatural communication, along with questions of the relationship between narratives and religious notions. This book will appeal to researchers and students of religion, mythology, folklore and the anthropology of religion, as well as general readers interested in the humanities.

Antigone S Sisters written by Lenart Škof and has been published by State University of New York Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-05-01 with Philosophy categories.

In Antigone's Sisters, Lenart Škof explores the power of love in our world—stronger than violence and, ultimately, stronger even than death. Focusing on Antigone, Savitri, and Mary, the book offers an investigation into various goddesses and feminine figures from a variety of philosophical, mythological, theological, and literary contexts. The book also elaborates on the feminine aspects of selected concepts from modern philosophical texts, such as the Matrix in Jakob Böhme, Clara in F. W. J. Schelling, beyng in Martin Heidegger, chóra in Jacques Derrida, and breath in Luce Irigaray's thought. Drawing on Bracha M. Ettinger's concept of matrixiality, Škof proposes a new matrixial theory of philosophy, cosmology, and theology of love. Despite its many usages and appropriations, love remains a neglected topic within Western philosophy. With its new interpretation of Antigone and related readings of Irigaray, Kristeva, and Ettinger, Antigone's Sisters aims to identify some of the reasons for this forgetting of love, and to show that it is only love that can bring peace to our ethically disrupted world.

Atmospheres Of Breathing written by Lenart Škof and has been published by State University of New York Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-03-19 with Philosophy categories.

Attempts to think anew about philosophical questions from the perspective of breath and breathing. As a physiological or biological matter, breath is mostly considered to be mechanical and thoughtless. By expanding on the insights of many religions and therapeutic practices, which emphasize the cultivation of breath, the contributors argue that breath should be understood as fundamentally and comprehensively intertwined with human life and experience. Various dimensions of the respiratory world are referred to as “atmospheres” that encircle and connect human existence, coexistence, and the world. Drawing from a number of traditions of breathing, including from Indian and East Asian religion and philosophy, the book considers breath in relation to ontological, hermeneutical, phenomenological, ethical, and aesthetic concerns in philosophy. The wide-ranging topics include poetry, theater, environmental issues and health, feminism, and media studies. Lenart Škof is Professor of Philosophy and Head of the Institute for Philosophical Studies at the Science and Research Center of Koper, Slovenia, and the coeditor (with Emily A. Holmes) of Breathing with Luce Irigaray. Petri Berndtson is a doctoral candidate of philosophy at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland.

Pragmatist Variations On Ethical And Intercultural Life written by Lenart Skof and has been published by Lexington Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-03-15 with Philosophy categories.

The book is a contribution to the fields of pragmatism, intercultural philosophy, and social and political ethics. The argument in the book runs along two lines: firstly, four pragmatist philosophers (William James, John Dewey, Richard Rorty, and Roberto Mangabeira Unger) are discussed by putting them into their respective intercultural contexts. They are interpreted as philosophers that were/are either explicitly or implicitly linked to some of the key tenets in comparative and/or intercultural philosophy of the twentieth/twenty-first century. Secondly, the book looks to their particular works and discusses the role of the body and its important ethical potential. In their respective contexts, it looks at the possibilities for linking James, Dewey, Rorty, and Unger to the original idea of the interculturally oriented ethical pragmatism. In this endeavor, the book also approaches the philosophies of Arthur Schopenhauer, Luce Irigaray, and Enrique Dussel in order to show their importance for a historical and contemporary (feminist and intercultural/global) debate about the philosophy of American pragmatism. The book concludes with two chapters — i.e. with a discussion of Irigaray’s ‘ethical pragmatism’ and finally with some reflections on contemporary Slovenian and French philosophy (Žižek, Badiou) as linked to the communism-democracy controversy. In both cases, again, pragmatist and intercultural methods are employed and the role of the body in their respective oeuvres is reflected.
