If you are on a statin drug or are thinking of going on a statin, this fully referenced book, Statin Drug Side Effects, is a "must read" for you. The unacceptable legacy of statin drug use at today's high doses is a trail of chronic aches and pains, numbness, weakness, confusion, fatigue, shortness of breath and even heart failure in hordes of unsuspecting victims. Only by knowing this information, and in consultation with your healthcare professional, can you make an informed decision about your health care. If you are a user of Vytorin, Lipitor, Zocor, Crestor, Mevacor, Pravachol or Lescol you must read this book. Most of the statin side effects I discuss are unknown to your busy doctor. Although knowledgeable about muscle and liver problems, few have heard of statin amnesia and other forms of memory dysfunction and fewer still associate hostility, aggression and profound depression as statin related. As a former astronaut, aerospace medical research scientist, flight surgeon and family doctor, I was appalled by the lack of information in the medical community on the full range of side effects of the statin drugs. This book is a comprehensive reference source and summary of side effects of statin drugs.

Statin Nation written by Justin Smith and has been published by Chelsea Green Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Health & Fitness categories.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide, and for decades conventional health authorities have pushed that the culprits are fat and cholesterol clogging up coronary arteries. Consequently, lowering cholesterol has become a hugely lucrative business, and cholesterol-lowering Statin drugs are now the most prescribed medication in the world, with clinical data showing one billion people eligible for prescription. However, these cholesterol guidelines have been heavily criticized, and increasingly, doctors and researchers have been questioning the role cholesterol plays in heart disease. We now know that people with heart disease often do not, in fact, have high cholesterol, and even the strongest supporters of the cholesterol hypothesis now admit that no ideal level of cholesterol can be identified. Large-scale studies have proven that statins are not generating the benefits that were predicted, and new research shows that high cholesterol may actually prevent heart disease. Worse still, millions of people in the United States and worldwide are taking statins preventatively, at great cost to their health. A complete reevaluation of the real causes of heart disease is long overdue, not to mention an inquiry into why the pharmaceutical industry continues to overprescribe statins (and market them aggressively to consumers) despite this evidence. Statin Nation offers a new understanding of heart disease, and Justin Smith forges an innovative path away from the outdated cholesterol myth with a viable alternative model to address the real causes of heart disease. Statin Nation provides detailed examinations of nutritional alternatives that are up to six times more effective than statins, and other interventions that have been shown to be up to eleven times more effective than statins. But all of these methods are currently ignored by health authorities. Smith provides a heart disease prevention plan that anyone can use, providing hope for the future of heart-disease treatment with a purpose.

"The Yosephs have written the most stunning expose. In plain language they reveal the science, the corruption and the enormous conspiracy it took to bring statins to market. As fast paced as a Mickey Spillane novel they report the research, the fraud and the facts like a detective in hot pursuit of a Nazi war criminal. It is riveting. They have accomplished the impossible: they have made both complex science and medical history fascinating to read. What could not be done in an expose they accomplished with almost unbelievablable ease. It will change your paradigms about medicine forever."--p.[4] of cover.

As a drug chemist for a leading pharmaceu-tical company I made a startling discovery: you do not have to be dependent on FDA approved drugs to, avoid heart disease. In fact, research clearly shows the opposite. You don't need a single prescription drug to avoid this killer. The best selling drugs of all time are the cholesterol-lowering drugs known as "statins". They procure drug makers and their shareholders billions of dollars in profits every year. The success of these drugs is not attributed to their effectiveness but instead to slick and misleading marketing practices. This hype is fueled by egregious conflicts of interest amongst drug company servants disguised as experts. Don't I be surprised if your own doctor falls within this group. The truth be told, statin drugs are poisons - foreign to the human body and may at times be, life threatening. Avoiding heart disease should not be expensive or dangerous. A plethora of natural alternatives exist. Understanding them as outlined in this paradigm shifting book will arm you with the understanding and courage not to accept popular dogma. It may prove to be one of the greatest assets to your health.

The first HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) lovastatin, has been on the market since 1987. In that time, five more drugs from this class, atorvastatin, pravastatin, fluvastatin, rosuvastatin, and simvastatin, have been approved by the FDA. Statins, among the top ten most commonly prescribed drugs in the US, are now recommended as first-time treatments by all major regulatory agencies in the US and elsewhere. As shown in numerous clinical trials, statins are extremely powerful and effective in reducing LDL cholesterol, accompanied by a significant reduction of cardiac events and strokes. As a class, they are well-tolerated by most patients and are easy to administer. However, the withdrawal of cerivastatin (Baycol) from the market in 2001 due to severe myopathy in some patients has led to increased concern among clinicians with respect to this and other side effects, such as liver and kidney disease. Some studies suggest this has led to increased reluctance among clinicians to initiate a statin drug regimen or to adjust dosage to increase therapeutic effect. While a small minority of patients do develop serious complications while on statin therapy, current clinical evidence strongly suggests that the benefits of timely statin administration significantly outweigh the risks. Oxford American Pocket Notes: Statin Prescribing Guide aims to provide clinicians with concise, easily accessible guidance on prescribing statins in various clinical settings. This volume features evidence-based discussion on the indications, pharmacokinetics, and safety profiles of the available statins and how these properties translate into selection of the appropriate treatment regimen for the individual patient. Useful tools, such as treatment algorithms, charts, tables, and illustrations greatly help enhance the value of this volume as a portable reference tool.

Using natural products and developing pharmaceutical drugs are emerging topics to reduce blood cholesterol levels for preventing heart disease and stroke. Covering recent progresses in cholesterol-lowering drugs and therapy, this book describes the natural and pharmaceutical products that are in clinical uses to lower cholesterol and lipids and compares these drugs in responses to different diseases such as homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. The relationship between ethnicity and cholesterol-lowering drug responses is also reviewed. Each chapter is a building block for the book, but each individual chapter is also a complete subject package for the readers. Researchers from basic and clinic science interested in lipid and cholesterol metabolism, regulation, and lowering will find this book very useful.
