STEWARDS OF HISTORY DESCRIBES the impact of race, slavery, civil rights, and religion in one Southern family over five generations. The core figure of the book is General John Hartwell Cocke (1780-1866) a Virginia planter, antislavery advocate, and younger friend and contemporary of Thomas Jefferson. The book tells the story of the General's life and family, his conversion to Christianity and his moral objections to slavery. On a solid business and practical foundation the General carried out an emancipation project that lasted for twenty years before the onset of the Civil War. With General Cocke's story in the background, the second portion of the book examines civil-rights era Birmingham and the nonviolent movement led by Dr. Martin Luther King. It ponders the symbolism of Vulcan and the significance of the events in this industrial steel-making city to our ongoing "industry of history." The last section of the book provides an overview of the preceding chapters from a more philosophical standpoint, and suggests a paradigm or framework in which a moral act can be understood and evaluated. Stewards of History makes a strong plea for stewardship-for taking care of our land, our families, and our traditions - but, above all, for the stewardship of the soul. For this is the essence of our life, and of history.

Brett Stamos loved his job, he loved his country, but most all, he loved his wife. When he allowed his curiosity to override his good sense, he lost all three. Brett found out that written history does not always match up with real history. Unwittingly, he uncovered that a monumental hoax had been perpetrated on the American people. He discovered original history books that debunked six decades of misinformation that kept President Makluas government in power. Slated for termination on charges of sedition, Bretts sure death is averted when he is rescued by people that he once disavowed as invaders and trespassers. The simple Forester becomes the face of an underground Liberty Movement whose mission is to return the United States to its former glory as a beacon of freedom in a dangerous world.

The parable of the unjust steward in Luke 16:1-13 is a unity which teaches faithful stewardship of material possession against an eschatological backdrop. This interpretation is confirmed by examination of the pericope itself and progressively wider levels of context within Luke's Gospel. Chapter one provides a history of recent interpretations of the parable (nineteenth and twentieth centuries) as background for the ensuing study. Detailed exegesis of Luke 16:1-13 itself is found in chapter two. The investigation is broadened in chapter three to include the immediate and broader literary contexts (Luke 15-16 and 9:51-19:44, respectively). Chapter four examines the theological context, in particular the themes of riches and poverty and the kingdom of God. Chapter five summarizes the major conclusions of the book. The book is a thorough summary of the literature on the parable, the central section, and the themes of riches and poverty and eschatology in the third Gospel.
