Still Falling written by Jennifer Grotz and has been published by Graywolf Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-05-02 with Poetry categories.

A searching new collection by a poet who “pays exquisite attention to everything she encounters” (The Washington Post) Still Falling expands on Jennifer Grotz’s precise sense of craft and voice to investigate new territory in this astonishing collection. These poems are emotionally raw and introspective, exploring the profound capaciousness of grief. Grotz carefully and deftly carries the weight of losses and their aftermaths—the deaths of the poet’s mentors, friends, and mother; the endings of relationships; and the enclosures of a life spent in attendance to the world in a state of wanting rather than truly living. Here also are poems that movingly and crucially decide what dedicating one’s life to poetry might require. But in the wake of painful loss, Grotz writes toward “this world, the living.” Her poems reveal and meditate on the paradoxical relationship between the literal and the figurative, at the heart of poetry itself, like the darkness and light of Caravaggio’s chiaroscuro. Still Falling is a book to be read slowly, calling readers back into the stillness of being, finding hope, “not death / where darkness and silence and dust are / only darkness and silence and dust.”

From an Aurora Award-winning author comes the first book in a new portal fantasy series in which one woman's powers open the way to a labyrinth of new dimensions. For Shawna Keys, the world is almost perfect. She's just opened a pottery studio in a beautiful city. She's in love with a wonderful man. She has good friends. But one shattering moment of violence changes everything. Mysterious attackers kill her best friend. They're about to kill Shawna. She can't believe it's happening--and just like that, it isn't. It hasn't. No one else remembers the attack, or her friend. To everyone else, Shawna's friend never existed... Everyone, that is, except the mysterious stranger who shows up in Shawna's shop. He claims her world has been perfect because she Shaped it to be perfect; that it is only one of uncounted Shaped worlds in a great Labyrinth; and that all those worlds are under threat from the Adversary who has now invaded hers. She cannot save her world, he says, but she might be able to save others--if she will follow him from world to world, learning their secrets and carrying them to Ygrair, the mysterious Lady at the Labyrinth's heart. Frightened and hounded, Shawna sets off on a desperate journey, uncertain whom she can trust, how to use her newfound power, and what awaits her in the myriad worlds beyond her own.

Iconoclasm – the alteration, destruction, or displacement of icons – is usually considered taboo or profane. But, on occasion, the act of destroying the sacred unintentionally bestows iconic status on the desecrated object. Iconoclasm examines the reciprocity between the building and the breaking of images, paying special attention to the constructive power of destructive acts. Although iconoclasm carries with it inherently religious connotations, this volume examines the shattering of images beyond the spiritual and the sacred. Presenting responses to renowned cultural anthropologist and theorist Michael Taussig, these essays centre on conceptual iconoclasm and explore the sacrality of objects and belief systems from historical, cultural, and disciplinary perspectives. From Milton and Nietzsche to Paul Newman and Banksy, through such diverse media and genres as photography, the popular romance novel, pornography, graffiti, cinema, advertising, and the dictionary, this book questions how icons and iconoclasms are represented, the language used to describe them, and the manner in which objects signify once they are shattered. An interdisciplinary, disconnected, and non-linear consideration of the historical and contemporary relationship between the sacred and the profane, Iconoclasm disrupts entrenched views about the revered or reviled idols present in most aspects of daily life. Contributors include T. Nikki Cesare Schotzko (Toronto), Christopher van Ginhoven Rey (Pomona College), Helen Hester (West London), Emily Hoffman (Arkansas Tech), Natalie B. Pendergast (Yukon College), Beth Saunders (Maryland), Adam Swann (Glasgow), Michael Taussig (Columbia), Angela Toscano (Iowa), Brendon Wocke (Perpignan).

In the spring of 1982, 68-year-old George Griffiths sailed solo from Britain to Barbados, where he was met by his two sons. The younger son, Mark, joined his father to sail home to Canada by way of the Panama Canal and up the Pacific coast. Mark's older brother, Blair, flew home to begin work as a CBC cameraman documenting the Canadian Mount Everest Expedition Team, with its 26 climbers, 30 Sherpas and more than 200 porters. Six months later, Blair Griffiths was dead, crushed by a six-storey wall of Everest ice. Through heroic efforts the team finally managed to recover Blair's remains, and there followed a heartbreaking cremation on a pyre of rhododendron boughs. Eventually two of the team succeeded in summiting the mountain. In 1985, George Griffiths trekked with his grandson to Everest Base Camp, where Blair's ashes were laid, in order to say goodbye. In this place of awe and majesty among mountains and sky, father and adventurer found peace. Written from taped accounts, diaries, letters and reports, Morning Light: Triumph at Sea & Tragedy on Everest is a poignant saga of adventure and high emotion that celebrates the human spirit and its need to explore.

While bidding farewell…is a compilation of 51 poems. These poems are an abstract reflection of myriad emotions cutting across the domains of philosophy, enlightenment, love, affection, heartbreak, innocence, relationships, responsibility, reality, universality, and celebration of life. They are nothing but a culmination, and a mere randomly scattered display of formless metaphors. More often than not, they are translations of these metaphorical happenings into words, while still attempting to retain the original purity, at the time of their occurrence. This book endeavours to convey indelible silence through words embedded into poems, capture sublime yet subtle happenings, and bring them into material existence.

"Hackwith's poignant, imaginative series sends readers on an amazing journey, with profound prose that will capture hearts and minds."* To save the Library of the Unwritten in Hell, former librarian Claire and her allies may have to destroy it first. Claire, rakish Hero, angel Rami, and muse-turned-librarian Brevity have accomplished the impossible by discovering the true nature of unwritten books. But now that the secret is out, in its quest for power Hell will be coming for every wing of the Library. To protect the Unwritten Wing and stave off the insidious reach of Malphas, one of Hell’s most bloodthirsty generals, Claire and her friends will have to decide how much they’re willing to sacrifice to keep their vulnerable corner of the afterlife. Succeeding would mean rewriting the nature of the Library, but losing would mean obliteration. Their only chance at survival lies in outwitting Hell and writing a new chapter for the Library. Luckily, Claire and her friends know how the right story, told well, can start a revolution. *Library Journal (starred review)
