"In alcuni momenti la storia potrebbe essere andata in maniera molto diversa da quella che conosciamo. Altre volte, nel resoconto degli avvenimenti potrebbero esserci state imprecisioni che, apparentemente piccole, sarebbero in grado di portarci a conclusioni anche molto distanti. O ancora, tracce che un tempo sembravano assolutamente insignificanti, o che addirittura non erano visibili, oggi si fanno determinanti per definire e stabilire la verità di fatti storici anche lontani. In tutti questi anni ho incontrato due categorie di studiosi particolarmente interessanti: la prima è composta da giovani ricercatori che, forse perché 'incoscienti', mi confessavano, seppur in modo riservato, di studi e scoperte che non rientravano nei canoni ufficiali; la seconda è invece ancora più affidabile e sorprendente, perché racchiude grandi professori, luminari, addirittura premi Nobel, che una volta arrivati all'apice della loro carriera potevano 'permettersi' di dire tutto quello che non avevano potuto o avuto il coraggio di raccontare prima. Mantenendo uno stretto riserbo su alcune fonti, in questo libro mi permetterò di evidenziare dubbi e sottolineare ipotesi. Vi accompagnerò per mano all'interno di questa ricerca che parte milioni di anni fa, dalle origini della Terra, e arriva fino ai giorni nostri: passando da Omero ai faraoni, dai templari alla Divina Commedia, da Nostradamus a Nikola Tesla." Storia dopo storia, sorpresa dopo sorpresa, scoperta dopo scoperta, questo libro cambia il nostro sguardo sulle cose. Non solo su quelle del passato. Ci allena a saper guardare anche altrove, dove altri si sono dimenticati di farlo, o hanno pensato che non ne valesse la pena. A non accontentarci, a essere pronti a scoprire qualcosa che non torna con tutto ciò che davamo per scontato. Eppure sembra meravigliosamente vero.

In recent years, the problem of translation has received renewed attention, but it has been mostly approached from a linguistic or ontological perspective. This book focuses on another aspect, i.e. the political and ethical implications of translation. Engaged in a debate, which encompasses various philosophers - such as Schleiermacher, Benjamin, Ortega y Gasset, Quine, Gadamer, Derrida, and Ricur - the book's contributions show that translation can be considered in an ambivalent way (which has a great ethical and political significance) as an attempt to bring the other back to one's own world or, vice versa, as an attempt to open up one's own world and to experience different cultures.
