I Giudicati Sardi erano dei veri “Regni”, autonomi e perfetti perché non avevano nessuno al di sopra di sé e potevano dichiarare guerra o stipulare trattati internazionali, erano una eccezione nel mondo di allora perché la loro vita era regolata da una democrazia che non aveva eguali nel basso medioevo e dove al parlamento (Corona de Logu) elettivo spettava la nomina e il controllo del sovrano. Altra caratteristica di modernità era rappresentata dal fatto che in questi regni medievali non esisteva la schiavitù ma solo uno stato servile che faceva salva la persona e la sua dignità. Altra innovazione di notevole importanza era quella che il re o giudice governava in nome del popolo e i patrimonio statale era solo in suo possesso e non di proprietà esclusiva.
