Questa mostra sulla tradizione ceramica montelupina realizza un obiettivo che perseguivo da anni; finalmente si e’ presentata l’occasione giusta e ne sono felice. Sono nata a Montelupo, che oggi ha cambiato totalmente il suo aspetto dagli anni in cui vi trascorrevo i mesi estivi in casa di mia nonna Dora, ma fortunatamente ha saputo mantenere intatta, e anzi sviluppare e diversificare, la sua migliore manifattura autoctona: la ceramica di Montelupo, sotto vari nomi e design, oggi è esportata in molti Paesi e sono orgogliosa di farla conoscere anche in Croazia. È una tradizione antica, con caratteristiche molto particolari messe in luce nei vari interventi scientifici di questo catalogo; non sufficientemente conosciuta e apprezzata come altre scuole ceramiche italiane, merita invece una promozione maggiore anche al di fuori del nostro Paese. Ho avuto modo di visitare recentemente il Museo della ceramica di Montelupo nella sua nuova sede, l’edificio che nei miei ricordi di bambina ospitava la scuola: le sale ampie e luminose illustrano bene il lungo percorso storico di questa manifattura locale, i momenti di splendore durante il Rinascimento, il successivo periodo di decadenza e il risveglio a partire dallo scorso secolo, quando la produzione ha potuto avvalersi dell’apporto dei migliori designers per inventare nuove forme e decorazioni, proiettandosi cosi’ sul mercato internazionale. La Scuola ceramica di Montelupo, in cui giovani allievi continuano ad apprendere i metodi di lavorazione e decorazione, ha naturalmente un’importanza primaria per mantenere viva e tramandare questa antica e splendida tradizione. Per questo abbiamo deciso di accompagnare la mostra con alcuni laboratori tenuti da artigiani montelupini: vi parteciperanno anche gli studenti della Scuola e dell’Accademia d’arte di Zagabria e ci e’ sembrato il modo migliore per ricostruire l’atmosfera della “bottega”, per promuovere momenti di incontro e di scambio di esperienze. Sono davvero grata a tutti coloro che in vario modo hanno contribuito alla realizzazione di questa iniziativa, e auspico che Zagabria sia solo la prima tappa di un piu’ vasto “tour” europeo.
