Dal Regno di Napoli al Regno d'Italia, fino alla Repubblica Italiana attraverso storie di vita, nascite, conquiste e successi ma anche lutti, drammi e disgrazie come ogni famiglia. La ricostruzione dell'evoluzione famigliare è durata diciassette anni e si è conclusa con la presentazione del libro nel Castello degli Evoli a Castropignano. Partendo dal 1756 al 1976 l'autore non ha dimenticato tutte le ramificazioni della famiglia creando un lungo ed elaborato albero genealogico posto ripiegato e fuori testo (nella versione cartacea) alla fine del libro.

Tra il 1949 e il 1976, la Cina comunista mise in campo una massiccia propaganda per consolidare il potere di Mao Tse-tung (Mao Zedong). La collettivizzazione forzata, il gran balzo in avanti (che procurò la morte per fame di almeno 20 milioni di cinesi), la rivoluzione culturale contro il deviazionismo di destra (con altri milioni di morti), che durerà a tutto il 1972, sono alcuni degli aspetti che hanno caratterizzato la storia della Cina maoista. A partire da giugno 1968 fino a giugno 1982, il libro riassume quattrordici anni di riviste illustrate, scritte in italiano e destinate agli stranieri, con l'intento di propagandare il maoismo.I lunghi editoriali riportati nel libro, fino al 1976 (morte di Mao), ripetono pedissequamente i suoi pensieri finalizzati a convincere i lettori esteri della bontà della via cinese al comunismo. Possiamo così seguire i paradossi di una ideologia che ha trasformato la Cina da paese arretrato a paese moderno attraverso un lungo cammino lastricato di lutti, violenze, soprusi, coercizioni, forzature, obblighi, sopraffazioni e alcune sofferte conquiste sociali. È una storia raccontata dalle immagini e da editoriali, spesso prolissi, a volte violenti, ottimamente tradotti da solerti redattori cinesi. Il testo, che accompagna (in chiave critica) le varie pubblicazioni, riguarda la mia personale testimonianza. È una retrospettiva storica di quegli anni. Gli ingredienti di questo libro sono il linguaggio duro, le minacce roboanti delle pilotate masse popolari contro i nemici interni ed esterni, gli stravolgimenti politici, le congiure e i tradimenti, i successi, le conquiste, le condanne e le riabilitazioni dei deviazionisti fino all'affermazione pragmatica del nuovo corso cinese voluto da Teng Hisiao-ping (Deng Xiaoping).
