In questo libro Licia racconta la sua infanzia infelice in collegio, senza una vera famiglia e senza un padre, la sua giovinezza trascorsa alla perenne ricerca di un qualcosa che le desse una esistenza serena, mentre si impelagava in diversi guai, poi il matrimonio, che sembrava perfetto, e l’attesa spasmodica di un figlio che non arrivava e che a un certo punto smise di ricercare, infine, per cause infinite, il sopraggiungere della depressione in forma grave, di cui ancora oggi si sa ben poco, e sulla quale c’è scarsa informazione. Nel frattempo Licia ha tentato due volte il suicidio, ha debellato un tumore al seno, ha lasciato suo marito e con una forza straordinaria sta cercando di riappropriarsi della sua vita. Con la voglia di scaricare dalle spalle tutto il peso che si porta da anni, dopo tante sofferenze e delusioni, dopo interminabili momenti angosciosi e distruttivi, tante sofferenze arrecate ai suoi cari, e a se stessa, dopo venticinque sedute di radioterapia e con la sua pastiglia al giorno che deve prendere per cinque anni, i controlli che vanno seguiti con regolarità, è qua e questa è la sua vita.
