Straight Outta Darkness is a story for God’s glory. One of the key principles of a successful addiction recovery is to bear witness of your own to give hope, encouragement and strategies to those in the trenches and battlefields of it. This book tells the story of Faith Love’s fall into the clutches of crack cocaine addiction and the miracle of her release from it. Being the product of a broken, dysfunctional family and often-times debilitating poverty, Faith sought love and acceptance on the streets of a tough Chicago neighborhood filled with an underbelly of crime and drug infestation. It was here that over the course of her young adulthood she became a violent gang member, had two babies, and got strung out on crack cocaine. She lost her home, her children to DCFS, and her dignity. This book is her redemption story, and it began when she became accountable to Jesus. His unexpected voice brought her to her knees and His love led her on the path to victory where she remains today (18 years and counting!) to tell this story for God’s glory.

A personal testimony of salvation through life experiences, "Out of the Darkness" encourages consideration of God's invitation of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Author Cortland Jones provides insight on darkness and explores how God uses both circumstantial darkness and spiritual darkness to lead open hearts into a personal, intimate encounter with Him. Cortland shares stories of how he overcame difficult circumstances and how he has grown through God's unconditional love, providing his testimony of how God spoke the light of salvation into his world. "Out of the Darkness" presents a resource that includes biblical references from both the Old and New Testament to enlighten and encourage growth in the grace and truth of Christ on the subject of salvation. It reveals truths from the Bible about God's plan, purpose, fulfillment, power, and glory in salvation. Through Scripture and personal insights revealed through childhood and adulthood experiences, "Out of the Darkness "describes God's personal call for Cortland to walk away from the pain of the past, the torment of failure, sin, emptiness, and thoughts of a hopeless future. He offers this opportunity to grow in the grace and truth of Jesus Christ.

This book explores the possibility of a "liberatory postmodern rhetoric" or, alternatively, a "postmodern liberation rhetoric." The author turns to one of the most ancient disciplines, rhetoric, in order to address a most contemporary concern: how can humans imagine new and better worlds when surrounded by unspeakable pain? After a foray into key terms—rhetoric, postmodern, liberation, pain, imagination, religion—the author places into conversation the theory and practice of four contemporary rhetoricians, two postmoderns, Kenneth Burke and Thomas Merton, and two liberationists, Paulo Freire of Brazil and Oscar Romero of El Salvador.

This Personal Application Workbook is designed to help you apply the Scriptural principles presented in the Faith in the Night Seasons textbook. The goal and purpose of every Christian is to be "conformed into the image of Christ." A true Biblical night season is a Father-filtered period of time designed to do just that. God deprives us of the natural light that we are so used to, in order that He might strengthen our faith and we might come to know Him in His fullness.

These services can be used by any number of participants, and include an order of service. Paradoxes Of The Passion examines the circumstances leading up to the crucifixion of an itinerant preacher from Galilee. What Shall I Do, Then, With Jesus Who Is Called Christ? brings us face to face with Pilate's question that has echoed down the centuries. Each of the Tenebrae services in this booklet can be used by any number of participants. An order of service for your bulletin preparations is also included. Paradoxes Of The Passion brings to the worshiping congregation the circumstances leading up to the crucifixion of an itinerant preacher from Galilee who was no less than the long-awaited Jewish Messiah. The seven paradoxes are interspersed with hymns and prayers. What Shall I Do, Then, With Jesus Who Is Called Christ? To Pilate's surprise the crowd sought freedom for the murderer Barabbas rather than for Jesus. Pilate then asked the question that has echoed down the centuries to every man, woman, and child who has ever heard the Gospel: ""What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called Christ?"" In this thought-provoking Good Friday Tenebrae service, Douglas Meyer explores how various key characters in the Passion story answered that question. Then he considers how The person in the pew answers that question today. Douglas E. Meyer graduated from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana with an M.Div. degree in 1981. He has served parishes at Shobonier and Tuscola, Illinois, and Naples, Florida, and is currently serving at Salem Lutheran Church in Salem, Illinois.

A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.
