The return of the Strange Attractor Journal, offering a characteristically eclectic collection of high weirdness from the margins of culture. After seven years of silence, the acclaimed Strange Attractor Journal returns with a characteristically eclectic collection of high weirdness from the margins of culture. Covering previously uncharted regions of history, anthropology, art, literature, architecture, science, and magic since 2004, each Journal has presented new and unprecedented research into areas that scholarship has all too often ignored. Featuring essays from academics, artists, enthusiasts, and sorcerers, Journal Five explores matters including the folklore of foghorns; the occult origins of the dissident surrealist secret society the Acéphale; the pleasures of heathen falconry; the dark cosmological mysteries of Bremen's Haus Atlantis; a provisional taxonomy of animals with human faces; a twentieth-century crucifixion on Hampstead Heath, and an unpublished horror script by David MacGillivray and Ken Hollings. Journal Five sees Strange Attractor continuing in its mission to celebrate unpopular culture. Join us. Contributors Nadia Choucha, William Fowler, Jeremy Harte, Ken Hollings, Christopher Josiffe, Phil Legard, David MacGillivray, Karen Russo, Robert J. Wallis, Dan Wilson, E. H. Wormwood

Incurable written by Lionel P Johnson and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-01-15 with Literary Collections categories.

Writings that shed new light on one of the most gifted, if reclusive, poets of the fin-de-siècle. A lost poet of the decadent era, Lionel Johnson is the shadow man of the 1890s, an enigma “pale as wasted golden hair.” History has all but forgotten Johnson, except as a footnote to the lives of more celebrated characters like W. B. Yeats and Oscar Wilde. Johnson should have been one of the great poets of the age but was already drinking eau-de-cologne for kicks while a teenager at Winchester College. His attraction to absinthe damaged his fragile health and cast him forever into a waking dream of haunted rooms and spectral poetry. A habitual insomniac, he haunted medieval burial grounds after dark, jotting down the epitaphs of the gone-too-young, as if anticipating his own early demise at the age of 35—falling from a bar stool in a Fleet Street pub. It was rumored that Johnson performed “strange religious rites” in his rooms at Oxford and experimented with hashish in the company of fellow poet Ernest Dowson. Moving to London, he fell in with Simeon Solomon, Oscar Wilde, and Aubrey Beardsley, and would contribute to the leading decadent publications of the day, including The Chameleon, The Yellow Book, and The Savoy. Like a glimmering of a votive candle in one of Johnson's dream churches, Incurable sheds new light on one of the most gifted, if reclusive, poets of the fin-de-siècle. Containing a detailed biography, illustrations, rare and unusual material including previously unseen letters, poetry, and essays, Incurable pays tribute to this enchanting and eccentric poet while providing fresh insight into an era that continues to fascinate.

The editors felt that the time was right for a book on an important topic, the history and development of the notions of chaotic attractors and their "natu ral" invariant measures. We wanted to bring together a coherent collection of readable, interesting, outstanding papers for detailed study and comparison. We hope that this book will allow serious graduate students to hold seminars to study how the research in this field developed. Limitation of space forced us painfully to exclude many excellent, relevant papers, and the resulting choice reflects the interests of the editors. Since James Alan Yorke was born August 3, 1941, we chose to have this book commemorate his sixtieth birthday, honoring his research in this field. The editors are four of his collaborators. We would particularly like to thank Achi Dosanjh (senior editor math ematics), Elizabeth Young (assistant editor mathematics), Joel Ariaratnam (mathematics editorial), and Yong-Soon Hwang (book production editor) from Springer Verlag in New York for their efforts in publishing this book.

Chaos and fractals are new mathematical ideas that have revolutionized our view of the world. They have application in virtually every academic discipline. This book shows examples of the artistic beauty that can arise from very simple equations, and teaches the reader how to produce an endless variety of such patterns. Disk includes a full working version of the program.

Hyperbolic Chaos written by Sergey P. Kuznetsov and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-03-20 with Science categories.

"Hyperbolic Chaos: A Physicist’s View” presents recent progress on uniformly hyperbolic attractors in dynamical systems from a physical rather than mathematical perspective (e.g. the Plykin attractor, the Smale – Williams solenoid). The structurally stable attractors manifest strong stochastic properties, but are insensitive to variation of functions and parameters in the dynamical systems. Based on these characteristics of hyperbolic chaos, this monograph shows how to find hyperbolic chaotic attractors in physical systems and how to design a physical systems that possess hyperbolic chaos. This book is designed as a reference work for university professors and researchers in the fields of physics, mechanics, and engineering. Dr. Sergey P. Kuznetsov is a professor at the Department of Nonlinear Processes, Saratov State University, Russia.

The Chaos Theory Of Careers written by Robert Pryor and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-05-10 with Business & Economics categories.

The Chaos Theory of Careers outlines the application of chaos theory to the field of career development. It draws together and extends the work that the authors have been doing over the last 8 to 10 years. This text represents a new perspective on the nature of career development. It emphasizes the dimensions of careers frequently neglected by contemporary accounts of careers such as the challenges and opportunities of uncertainty, the interconnectedness of current life and the potential for information overload, career wisdom as a response to unplanned change, new approaches to vocational assessment based on emergent thinking, the place of spirituality and the search for meaning and purpose in, with and through work, the integration of being and becoming as dimensions of career development. It will be vital reading for all those working in and studying career development, either at advanced undergraduate or postgraduate level and provides a new and refreshing approach to this fast changing subject. Key themes include: Factors such as complexity, change, and contribution People's aspirations in relation to work and personal fulfilment Contemporary realities of career choice, career development and the working world

An application of the techniques of dynamical systems and bifurcation theories to the study of nonlinear oscillations. Taking their cue from Poincare, the authors stress the geometrical and topological properties of solutions of differential equations and iterated maps. Numerous exercises, some of which require nontrivial algebraic manipulations and computer work, convey the important analytical underpinnings of problems in dynamical systems and help readers develop an intuitive feel for the properties involved.

Topology And Dynamics Of Chaos written by Christophe Letellier and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Science categories.

The book surveys how chaotic behaviors can be described with topological tools and how this approach occurred in chaos theory. Some modern applications are included. The contents are mainly devoted to topology, the main field of Robert Gilmore's works in dynamical systems. They include a review on the topological analysis of chaotic dynamics, works done in the past as well as the very latest issues. Most of the contributors who published during the 90's, including the very well-known scientists Otto RAssler, Ren(r) Lozi and Joan Birman, have made a significant impact on chaos theory, discrete chaos, and knot theory, respectively. Very few books cover the topological approach for investigating nonlinear dynamical systems. The present book will provide not only some historical OCo not necessarily widely known OCo contributions (about the different types of chaos introduced by RAssler and not just the RAssler attractor; Gumowski and Mira's contributions in electronics; Poincar(r)'s heritage in nonlinear dynamics) but also some recent applications in laser dynamics, biology,
