Offering a complete introduction to sport development policy and practice, this book covers key theory, themes, issues, and debates in sport development, without assuming any prior knowledge on the part of the reader. It outlines the organisational landscape of sport in the UK and explains important differences across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, as well as the global context. Examining both community and elite sport, it covers public, private, and third sectors, including national and local government and national governing bodies, and considers change – cultural, managerial, social, and political – as an element of sport development policy, strategy, and operations. Every chapter includes an in-depth case study around which a seminar or tutorial can be based, as well as definitions of key concepts and terminology that students and practitioners are likely to encounter during their studies or professional practice. Questions at the end of each chapter encourage the reader to reflect on their own work, and useful guides to further reading make the book an ideal jumping off point for further study. This is the perfect foundation textbook for any sport development course taken as part of a degree program in sport development, sport management, or sport coaching.

Seminar paper from the year 2011 in the subject Business economics - Offline Marketing and Online Marketing, grade: A, University of Illinois at Chicago, language: English, abstract: The business sector has always realized the importance of developing a strategic marketing plan. Similarly, the sports sector has also recognized the need to establish a marketing plan to ensure high-quality performance and success. Many researchers in the field of sports argue that sports will not survive without a strategic marketing plan. The reason for this is the increased competition inherent in the entertainment industry. The A.I.S, as Australia's main national sports institute, is not exempted from implementing a marketing plan. A.I.S was founded with the aim of improving the sports industry in Australia. Since its inception, the institute has served successfully the nation's sports industry. However, as the world is constantly developing more innovative programs, A.I.S faces many challenges and competition from other sports institutes that provide high quality and entertaining sports. To remain competitive in this sector, a marketing plan is crucial. The strategic marketing plan examines the current state of the institute and analyses in detail its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats accordingly. The analysis also seeks to develop a marketing strategy for A.I.S that will help the institute improve by the year 2022. This involves examining the products, prices, promotion and place, commonly referred to as 4ps in business terms. Analysis of the 4ps helps greatly in implementation of action approaches aimed at improving the entire institute. Therefore, AIS needs to take some action plans to effectively sort its problems and continue to be in the lead.

Strategic Sport Communication written by W. Timothy Coombs and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-09-15 with Business & Economics categories.

Authors Coombs and Harker provide step-by-step guidance on how the strategic communication process—an integration of marketing communication, public relations, and advertising—can be applied to sports communication for individual athletes, teams, and leagues. The book is founded on the premise that the strategic communication process in sport communication is grounded in understanding the fans and sources of revenue. Looking at sports globally, it offers readers the traditional multi-step, linear approach to strategic communication message development along with the transmedia narrative transportation method, a non-linear approach that centers on narratives to engage target audiences and urge them to contribute their own material to messaging. With case studies and practical examples, it also highlights additional issues such as race and gender, social media, ethics, and athlete health. It is an ideal text for undergraduate and graduate courses in public relations or strategic communication and sport communication. An online instructor’s manual accompanies the text, including lecture slides; a sample strategic sports communication plan; a test bank; links to key web sites that discuss sports and sports communication concerns; links to case studies with class discussion prompts; sample assignments; a sample course syllabus; and suggestions for further reading. Sport, and in particular the sporting environment, has undergone significant changes in recent decades. The social significance and commercialization of sport; the use of new technologies and organizational structures; and the involvement of various stakeholders matter more today than ever before. This book addresses the key influence of stakeholders in particular on the activities of sports organizations, taking into account certain territorial differences around the world, but also within Europe. The authors explain the key characteristics of the management of sports organizations as opposed to other organizations. These include the strategic management and setting of long-term goals such as sporting success, sustainable funding, youth training, and community building. The authors present a strategic model for these goals and stakeholders in the context of sport, together with research-based case studies in which the critical factors in the strategic management of successful and unsuccessful sports organizations are identified.

Sport has the incredible power to positively influence the world, and it is with this in mind that the field of Sport for Development and Peace (SDP) has seen tremendous growth over the years. Sport can strengthen social ties, advance human rights, aid economic development, promote inclusion, and more. In Sport for Development and Peace: Foundations and Applications, internationally-recognized SDP experts offer their insights, perspectives, and experiences on a range of topics within the field. The first part of the text focuses on the foundations of SDP, addressing its history, sociological aspects, specific goals—such as development, inclusion, sport participation, and conflict resolution—and political and economic implications. It closes with an evaluation and assessment of SDP programs. The second part examines the application of SDP by providing examples and insights into government involvement in SDP, not-for-profit organizations, and corporate and for-profit enterprises. Finally, the book concludes with a discussion of current trends and future implications of SDP. Written for current and future SDP managers, developers, and administrators, from the student to the professional, Sport for Development and Peace offers a comprehensive look at the many substantive and interconnected SDP topics in order to positively impact this fast-growing field.
