*The International Bestseller* Is there anything more cut-throat than global politics? Wherever you turn – Europe, Russia, China, Korea, Syria, the Middle East – we are living in a time of global geopolitical power plays. Once an insider to this closed world, Pedro Banos reveals that however it might be smoothed over by the PR of political diplomacy, the world of geopolitics is one of war and conflict by strategic means, where countries have sought dominion and power over their rivals since the dawn of time. Banos presents this high-stakes game as a series of 22 universal rules on how to act and exert influence in the international sphere. Each principle is contextualised in both classical and modern history, from Bismarck to Kissinger, but also related to the current world of Trump, Putin and Xi Jinping. With titles like ‘Kicking Away the Ladder’, ‘The Tower of Champagne Glasses’, ‘The Madman’, and ‘The Mule and the Saddlebags’, How They Rule the World is a practical set of rules for engagement that can be enjoyed by anyone. Written with the philosophic, aphoristic timelessness of a von Bulow, Sun Tzu or Machiavelli, Banos has created an utterly gripping manual on the secrets of how strategic power really works.

Military Strategy Of Great Powers written by Håkan Edström and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-09-20 with History categories.

This book explores the military strategies of the five system-determining great powers during the twenty-first century. The book’s point of departure is that analyses of countries’ defence strategies should acknowledge that states come in various shapes and sizes and that their strategic choices are affected by their perceptions of their position in the international system and by power asymmetries between more and less resourceful states. This creates a diversity in strategies that is often overlooked in theoretically oriented analyses. The book examines how five major powers – the United States, China, the United Kingdom, France and Russia – have adjusted their strategies to improve or maintain their relative position and to manage power asymmetries during the twenty-first century. It also develops and applies an analytical framework for exploring and categorising the strategies pursued by the five major powers which combines elements of structural realism with research on power transition theory and status competition. The concluding chapter addresses questions related to stability and change in the present international system. This book will be of interest to students of strategic studies, foreign policy, and International Relations.

In The Shadow Of Power written by Robert Powell and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-08-22 with Political Science categories.

Robert Powell argues persuasively and elegantly for the usefulness of formal models in studying international conflict and for the necessity of greater dialogue between modeling and empirical analysis. Powell makes it clear that many widely made arguments about the way states act under threat do not hold when subjected to the rigors of modeling. In doing so, he provides a more secure foundation for the future of international relations theory. Powell argues that, in the Hobbesian environment in which states exist, a state can respond to a threat in at least three ways: (1) it can reallocate resources already under its control; (2) it can try to defuse the threat through bargaining and compromise; (3) it can try to draw on the resources of other states by allying with them. Powell carefully outlines these three responses and uses a series of game theoretic models to examine each of them, showing that the models make the analysis of these responses more precise than would otherwise be possible. The advantages of the modeling-oriented approach, Powell contends, have been evident in the number of new insights they have made possible in international relations theory. Some argue that these advances could have originated in ordinary-language models, but as Powell notes, they did not in practice do so. The book focuses on the insights and intuitions that emerge during modeling, rather than on technical analysis, making it accessible to readers with only a general background in international relations theory.

The Master Strategist written by Ketan J. Patel and has been published by Random House Business Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Business and politics categories.

In the same way that Machiavelli, and Sun Tzu before him, exploded all existing ideas about strategy in The Prince and The Art of War, The Master Strategist cuts across politics, economics and business to set out a new and compelling way to think about strategy for a peaceful, prosperous and more free future. We stand at a point in history where we can have almost anything we desire. Our ability to compute the underlying equations of everything -- our genetic code, the structure of matter, the nature of time and space -- promises to enable us to enter a new era of miracles. The ability to create new weapons that can reach any enemy promises to enable us to wage any war. Learning how to harness and direct this capability is now critical if we are to forge a better future. It is in Man's nature to dream and aspire and then to endeavour, deceive and fight to achieve his dreams and aspirations. Strategy is merely the word we give to the thought that goes into determining how we will prevail. Ketan Patel, founder and head of the Strategic Group at Goldman Sachs, meets with leaders in international business, investing and government policy every week. This unique access to people at this level has given him the opportunity of discussing with them some of the most fundamental questions facing us, in particular, the strategies for creating peace, prosperity and freedom. The Master Strategist explains why our current approaches to strategy are failing to create a world where power, purpose and principle are exercised to produce global peace, prosperity and freedom. It sets out the agenda for a new approach to strategy that will be compelling for strategists from the White Houseto Wall Street to the streets of London, Tokyo, Shanghai, Mumbai and beyond.
