Self Boring Pressuremeter In Po River Sand written by D. Bruzzi and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1985 with In-situ horizontal stress categories.

The results of a series of self-boring pressuremeter tests (SBPT) carried out in the quaternary Po river sand are presented. Assessment of total horizontal in situ stress, shear modulus and shear strength, of the tested sand is discussed. Comments on the use of the above mentioned parameters in practice are advanced.

The self-boring pressuremeter offers a particular advantage in that it can be installed in the ground with minimal disturbance. The loading stage of a pressuremeter test in sand has been analysed previously in terms of the shear modulus, angle of friction, angle of dilation and the initial horizontal stress and pore pressure. A new analysis is presented of the unloading stage of the pressuremeter test; this can provide a separate check on the parameters measured during the loading stage. An optimisation routine is used to fit the properties to the results of a series of tests at a site in Wales. Various important effects are discussed, including the effect of stress level on the shear modulus and the relevant value of the angle of friction to be used for the unloading stage.

Undrained Stress Strain Behavior Of Unsaturated Sands written by Rolland G. Boehm and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1988 with categories.

This final report provides the details of an investigation on the undrained stress strain behavior of partly saturated sands under controlled laboratory conditions. A new triaxial test setup was developed during the previous years of this research study. Thus, the two purposes of the investigation reported in this report were a) to evaluate the usefulness of the new soil test procedure, and b) to determine the behavior of the unsaturated sand samples. An axis translation technique was used to monitor pore water pressure changes during the tests and this appeared to work well. A special ceramic porous stone was used to be able to measure pore water and air pressures separately. The conclusions drawn from this research are that the stress-strain behavior changes little with respect to saturation level until the level approaches about 95%. The initial tangent modulus decreased with an increase in saturation. For lower saturated samples, there seems to be no difference between an undrained and a drained test. The dilation potential of the sand increased with strain rate. The strain rate had some effect on the initial modulus of only the dense samples of sand.

Eleven SBPT's in Ticino sand (TS) whose results together with those of the first test run on Hokksund sand (HS) are summarized on Table 1. All these tests have been performed using the ideal installation procedure. It has been discovered during the 1-D stressing that the three Caskometer strain arms are subjected to a pronounced mechanical compliance which is responsible, according to the writers opinion, for the following highly undesirable phenomena: (1) The observed lift-off pressure (p sub o) does not correspond to the applied horizontal boundary stress, sigma sub o. The difference (p sub o - delta ho) increases with an increase of relative density (DR) and with the magnitude of the stress applied to the specimen; (2) The lift-off of the three strain arms does not occur simultaneously. In view of these compliance problems, a number of simple checks on the Camkometer strain arms have been performed. These results are summarized. It was decided to expand the present research programme with a number of flat dilatometer tests Marchetti 1980 performed in the CC. The aim was to investigate the reliability of this device to deliver information about the existing in situ lateral stress, sigma sub h sub o. The results of these tests are summarized. The tests have been performed simulating field conditions; the dilatometer has been inserted into the CC specimen after 1-D stressing and then the DM expansion has taken place. A series of shear tests on both TS and HS have been performed using the Bishop type ring shear apparatus with the aim of assessing the constant volume angle of shearing resistance, phi prime sub cv of the test sands.

Effect Of Specimen Preparation Method On The Stress Strain Behavior Of Sand In Plane Strain Compression Tests written by D. Wanatowski and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Moist tamping categories.

Experimental results are presented in this paper to study the effect of specimen preparation method on the stress-strain behavior of sand in plane-strain compression tests. The data obtained from K0 consolidation, drained, undrained and strain path tests conducted on medium loose specimens prepared by the moist-tamping (MT) and the water sedimentation (WS) methods are compared. The test data show that the plane-strain compression behavior of medium loose sand under K0, drained and strain-path controlled (including undrained) conditions is affected by the specimen preparation method. Under K0 conditions, the K0 values obtained from the MT specimens are generally lower than those obtained from the WS specimens. Under drained conditions, more contractive behavior was observed for the MT sand. However, the failure stress ratio (or the failure friction angle) was not affected by the specimen preparation method. The data presented in this paper also illustrate that the compression behavior of medium loose sand in strain-path testing can be affected by the specimen preparation method. However, the differences in the stress-strain behavior will also depend on the strain increment ratio (d?v/d?1) imposed on the specimens. In general, different behaviors of the moist-tamped and water-deposited specimens reflect the influence of soil fabrics on the stress-strain behavior of sand.
