Wychowany w wierze, że Zachód to ostoja wolności i demokracji, w najbardziej pijanym widzie nie wyobraziłbym sobie, że ledwie trzydzieści lat po tym, jak komunistyczna zaraza haniebnie wygasła w swym kacapskim mateczniku, opanuje ona umysły Zachodu – „wolnego świata”, jak nazywało się go za moich czasów. Nie sztuka czuć, że świat się psuje czy wariuje, nie sztuka zauważyć, że nadchodzi koniec świata, sztuka ten koniec świata przeżyć, zrozumieć i w świecie kolejnym znaleźć to, co będzie dobre, co da się wykorzystać i co trzeba rozwijać. W zalewie informacji o rewolucyjnych zmianach, pandemicznych restrykcjach, politycznych przewrotach, ulicznych zamieszkach, obalaniu pomników i stawianiu nowych, potępianiu tego, co do niedawna było święte i uznawaniu za świętości tego, co do niedawna otaczano pogardą albo lekceważeniem – ustalić, co jest skutkiem, a co przyczyną. Rewolucji, udanych i nie, mieliśmy w dziejach jeszcze więcej, niż końców świata. Wydaje się więc, że z takim materiałem porównawczym intelektualiści powinni tę dzisiejszą rozebrać na czynniki pierwsze i objaśnić bez żadnego problemu, błyskawicznie. A jednak jakoś nie potrafią. Moi zdaniem dlatego, że tym razem mamy do czynienia z rewolucją, mimo wszelkich pozorów, zupełnie inną, bezprecedensową. Strollowaną.
