Neben dieser bilden vier weitere Arbeiten zum Thema des Strukturwandels im Ruhrgebiet einen Überblick über die Entwicklung des Ruhrgebiets der letzten 20 Jahre. Um den Strukturwandel der Zeche zu beschreiben, wird zunächst die geschichtliche Entwicklung der Zeche, aber auch der Stadt Herne beschrieben. Anschließend werden neben der Definition des Strukturwandels auch die wichtigsten Einflüsse und Entscheidungsträger vorgestellt, die das Gewerbegebiet Friedrich der Große ermöglicht haben. Dadurch lässt sich die Umsetzung von der Zeche Friedrich der Große zum Gewerbegebiet Friedrich der Große beschreiben. Daraus folgt die Fragestellung, ob die Art und Weise der Umsetzung des Strukturwandels am Beispiel der Zeche Friedrich der Große eine erfolgreiche und vorbildliche Lösung ist. Im Hinblick auf diese Arbeit recherchierte ich bei der WFG (Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft Herne mbH), dem IGZ (Innovations- und Gründerzentrum Herne), dem Stadtarchiv Herne, der DSK (Deutsche Steinkohle AG), dem Internet, dem Kommunalverband Ruhrgebiet (KVR) und weiteren Bibliotheken. Aufgrund der formalen Vorgaben musste ich auf günstige Möglichkeiten mehrerer Interviews mit den Firmenleitern der dort ansässigen Unternehmen verzichten. Für ein genaueres Fazit wäre dies jedoch von Nöten.
