Following up on the mysterious radioactive poisoning of more than 30 research scientists at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, Washington reporter Peter Robbins pursues an unusually intensive investigation in an attempt to prove to his newspaper editors that he is worthy of being sent back overseas as a foreign correspondent, something he has done for much of his career. His inquiry eventually leads him to South Korea, and to a pair of scientists tricked into working on nuclear and chemical weapons in North Korea, thinking they were working on covert programs controlled by their government. Along the way he becomes involved, in a torrid affair with a raven-haired Eurasian beauty, is encouraged by the Central Intelligence Agency to perform a mission its agents could not safely tackle, becomes aware of a number of wanton murders, and is himself the target of two very close-call attempts on his own life. His quest confronts a very unexpected twist at the end.

The Generation Of Rage In Kashmir written by David Devadas and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-07-16 with Political Science categories.

2008, 2010, and 2016—three important points in recent history when mass rage emerged in Kashmir. But the reasons that pushed Kashmir to the brink on these three occasions were different from each other—from a perceived threat to identity, to rage over the killing of innocents, to support for militancy. If one looks closely, one could spot another important change: by 2016, a new generation of millennials had replaced those who had pelted stones in 2008. And, in a matter of a mere decade, the hope that was slowly permeating Kashmir suddenly collapsed and gave way to a new round of militancy. In this book David Devadas, a respected authority on Kashmir, delves into his deep understanding of the region and its youth to offer a unique understanding of the Kashmir issue. He relates the increase in the generation of rage in Kashmir to the inability of those in power to declare the end of militancy at the right time. Exploring vital aspects of the conflict economy, murders for rewards, and terror acts by state-backed mercenaries, Devadas shows how simplistic black-and-white narratives suit both pro- and anti-state actors equally and lead the poor and marginal to their deaths.

With more than 100,000 copies in print, Living with the Passive-Aggressive Man draws on case histories from clinical psychologist Scott Wetzler’s practice to help you identify the destructive behavior, the root causes and motivations, and solutions. Do you know one of these men? The catch-me-if-you-can lover... Phil’s romantic and passionate one minute, distant and cold the next. The deviously manipulative coworker or boss... Jack denies resenting Nora’s rapid rise in the company, but when they’re assigned to work together on a project, he undermines her. The obstructionist, procrastinating husband... Bob keeps telling his wife he’ll finish the painting job he began years ago, but he never seems to get around to it. These are all classic examples of the passive-aggressive man. This personality syndrome—in which hostility wears a mask of passivity—is currently the number one source of men’s problems in relationships and on the job. In Living with the Passive-Aggressive Man, Scott Wetzler draws upon numerous case histories from his own practice to explain how and why the passive-aggressive man thinks, feels, and acts the way he does. Dr. Wetzler also offers advice on: • How to avoid playing victim, manager, or rescuer to the “P-A” • How to get his anger and fear into the open • How to help the “P-A” become a better lover, husband, and father • How to survive passive-aggressive game playing on the job Living with a man’s passive aggression can be an emotional seesaw ride. But armed with this book, you can avoid the bumpy landings.

Cross written by Austin Duffy and has been published by Granta Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-07-04 with Fiction categories.

1994, the summer of the ceasefire. In the Northern Irish border town of Cross, after decades of violent activity protesting British rule, a community plays out its end game. Francie, a principled elder of the cause, has authorised the murder of a policeman; his teenage henchmen are triumphant at pulling it off. In the town square, the Widow Donnelly protests because her son has gone missing. Young Cathy Murphy, the daughter of a Protestant, is trying to find her place among a people who ignore her. And pathological Handy Byrne, whose marksmanship makes him a valuable weapon, is out of control. Meanwhile, paranoia is growing because operations are beginning to go wrong. The townsfolk suspect a tout, but no one is willing to accept the evidence before their eyes. From its dramatic first chapter, Cross is an extraordinary evocation of the loyalties and divisions within a town governed by its own variety of law, where violence is rewarded and complicity is second nature. It is a complex tale of betrayal and brutality at the height of the Troubles, a moving, powerful and empathetic lament for a community that has lost its way in its battle for the nation.

West of the Divide By: Paula Overton Paula Overton was born and raised in the South. She and her husband have traveled extensively all over the world and the United States. She loved the Northwest United States, including the area West of the Divide. The ruggedness of the area remains the same through the years. When she first saw the area around the Salmon River, even now with the modern highways and cities, it remains a wonderful rugged land. She thought back about the pioneers who came West to tame this wild land. This impeccable spot of the country inspired Overton to write about the settlers’ experiences. And to try and bring to life what it must have been like to settle this terrain. Anyone with an interest in the history of the United States and its development, especially the area West of the Divide, will thoroughly enjoy Paula Overton’s work.

Epilog written by Clifford D. Simak and has been published by Open Road Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-07-11 with Fiction categories.

A volume of eleven stories from the Hugo Award–winning science fiction author that explore inner space, future worlds, and the peculiar lives of robots. One of the twentieth century’s most pioneering science fiction authors, Clifford D. Simak had a special fondness for robots. Not only did these thinking machines represent the boundless possibilities of technology, they also had the potential to bring—in his words—“the kindness and the courage that I thought were needed in the world.” The stories in this volume offer a variety of Simak’s unique robot visions. In “Lulu,” a robot built for planetary exploration takes on a female identity, causing unforeseen challenges for her three-man crew. An examination of an unknown planet reveals the celestial body to be a single, gigantic computer whose origins and purpose are a mystery, in “Limiting Factor.” And in the title story, Simak returns to his longest-running robot character, Jenkins, who reflects on all that has come and gone one last time. Each story includes an introduction by David W. Wixon, literary executor of the Clifford D. Simak estate and editor of this ebook.
