Jednak nie tutaj budowania bazy, czy szkolenia jednostek. Nowe oddziały otrzymasz po wykonaniu zadań lub w formie posiłków. Jeśli popełnisz błąd i stracisz zbyt wielu żołnierzy, może zabraknąć ci sił do finalnego natarcia. Sudden Strike 4 nie stanowi wielkiego wyzwania, zwłaszcza w trybie kampanii, dla wytrwanego stratega (choć nadal może znaleźć parę użytecznych porad), ale może sprawić problem dla początkującego gracza. Gra nagradza taktyczne podejście i nieraz będziesz uderzał z flanki, dokonywał okrążeni czy wykorzystywał siłę zwiadu i artylerii. Bardzo ważny jest pole widzenia, ponieważ czołgi mogą być zniszczone przez ukrywającą się piechotę, bez jednego wystrzału. Każda jednostka ma swój zapas amunicji oraz paliwa, który musisz uzupełniać za pomocą specjalnych ciężarówek. Również każdy pojazd może mieć zniszczoną gąsienice lub silnik, a jeśli napotkasz opuszczony czołg lub ciężarówkę, możesz go przejąć niczym w Men of War. W razie potrzeby, użyjesz wsparcia lotniczego albo przywołasz spadochroniarzy z poza mapy. Przed każdą misją wybierzesz jednego z trzech doktryn. Każda z nich kładzie nacisk na inną gałąź armii oraz posiada zróżnicowane umiejętności, które maja duży wpływ na przebieg bitwy np. dodatkowe granaty dla żołnierzy, prowizoryczne opancerzenie dodatkowe dla czołgów czy umiejętność okopania się dla dział przeciwpancernych.
