Im Jahr 2002 starben in Deutschland 11.163 junge Menschen unter 25 durch Suizid und Selbstbeschädigung. Die Dunkelziffer dürfte jedoch deutlich höher liegen, weil viele Suizide als Unfall inszeniert werden. Auch versuchte Suizide werden nur zum Teil erfasst, da nicht alle Versuche in Krankenhäusern behandelt werden. Suizidalität ist besonders in der Lebensphase „Jugend“ keine Seltenheit, wird jedoch häufig tabuisiert. Lange Zeit wurde bei Suizidalität im Jugendalter ein enger Zusammenhang zwischen Suizidalität und Depression vermutet und eine Depression als Auslöser für Suizidhandlungen betrachtet. Dagegen mehren sich in der aktuellen Literatur die Hinweise dafür, dass Ängste und insbesondere eine Angststörung eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Psychodynamik suizidaler Entwicklungen spielen. Erstaunlicherweise wurde der Interaktionszusammenhang zwischen Angst und Suizidalität auch in neuerer Fachliteratur bis heute nur unzureichend erörtert. Des Weiteren sieht Angstliteratur in der Regel die Angststörung im Kindes- und Jugendalter nicht als eine Störung an, die zu einer suizidalen Handlung führt. Daher beleuchtet dieses Buch den Zusammenhang zwischen suizidalem Verhalten und Ängsten im Jugendalter. Warum nehmen sich manche Jugendliche das Leben? Was geht in ihnen vor? Secret-keeping is a seemingly unavoidable part of human interaction, from governments to married couples. Unlike privacy, which in the West is considered a healthy characteristic of the autonomous adult, secrets are often troublesome, creating distorted perceptions and strained relationships. Secrets, moreover, are complex. They differ in significance (a surprise party versus hidden incest), in the ways they shape family relationships (who knows what about whom), in their location (between family members or between the family and society), and in their effects on individual functioning (Does the secret affect only one relationship or the overall way the individual responds to others?). Because of this complexity, secrets are resistant to simple "rules": Therapy must comprise more than opening up the secret or addressing only the context and not the content or vice versa. Therapists are confronted with the difficult task of examining their own values regarding secrecy while, at the same time, providing an effective therapeutic environment. Practical issues of individual safety, the meaning of the secret for the family, the therapist's attitude towards secrets in general and the family's secret in particular - all must be considered in order for treatment to be effective. Parmenides of Elea was a pre-Socratic Greek philosopher from Elea in Magna Graecia (Greater Greece, included Southern Italy). He was the founder of the Eleatic school of philosophy. The single known work of Parmenides is a poem, On Nature, which has survived only in fragmentary form. In this poem, Parmenides describes two views of reality. In "the way of truth" (a part of the poem), he explains how reality (coined as "what-is") is one, change is impossible, and existence is timeless, uniform, necessary, and unchanging. In "the way of opinion," he explains the world of appearances, in which one's sensory faculties lead to conceptions which are false and deceitful. He has been considered to be the founder of metaphysics or ontology. The first hero cult of a philosopher we know of was Parmenides' dedication of a heroon to his teacher Ameinias in Elea. Parmenides was the founder of the School of Elea, which also included Zeno of Elea and Melissus of Samos. Of his life in Elea, it was said that he had written the laws of the city. His most important pupil was Zeno, who according to Plato was 25 years his junior, and was regarded as his eromenos. Parmenides had a large influence on Plato, who not only named a dialogue, Parmenides, after him, but always wrote about him with veneration.
