Excerpt from Sunday Evenings at Loretto A few playful breathings of Fancy, A few Legends, imperfectly told, But the memories of beautiful childhood Are always more precious than gold. The years of the shadowy Future, Will hail these mementoes again, And the Child of Loretto will treasure The simple, yet love-hallowed strain, That will call back her thoughts to the Evenings, The Friends who were circling her there, The sweet, kindly words of approval, The gentle and vigilant care, That earnestly, ceaselessly, ever Was guiding, with motherly hand, The heart of the Child of Loretto To rest in the Heavenly Land. Shot point blank in the side of the neck, Michael Kiel was completely paralyzed from the neck down on April 16, 1993. As a 19-year-old sophomore at Penn State - Altoona campus, the world he knew vanished. It was turned upside down and inside out, and the next four months in the hospital and rehab center would test every fiber of his being. This memoir is about his perspective on life - his entire life - before, during, and after a life-altering spinal cord injury. He shares many of his highs and lows, the importance of humor, and the incredible support around him. His brutally honest life story, along with his poems, and humorous anecdotes will inspire others to discover humor and strength through their own challenging moments.

The Ceely Rose Murders At Malabar Farm written by Mark Sebastian Jordan and has been published by Arcadia Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-02-05 with True Crime categories.

This chilling true crime history reveals the story of a young woman in nineteenth century rural Ohio who poisoned her family for love. It was a cold and rainy day in Ohio’s Pleasant Valley in the spring of 1896, one that began like any other for the Rose family. What they didn’t know was that young Ceely Rose was brooding. She’d been told to forget her obsession with handsome Guy Berry. She’d been told about the danger of Rough-on-Rats poison. She’d heard about murdering those who stand in the way of love. By the time Ceely was done, her family would be dead and others threatened. Later, the place where these crimes took place became Malabar Farm, the estate of Pulitzer Prize–winning author and conservationist Louis Bromfield. In The Ceely Rose Murders at Malabar Farm, Ohio author and historian Mark Sebastian Jordan examines the story of the Poisoner of Pleasant Valley, and how it has resonated throughout the years.

The Miraculous Flying House Of Loreto written by Karin Vélez and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019 with History categories.

In 1295, a house fell from the evening sky onto an Italian coastal road by the Adriatic Sea. Inside, awestruck locals encountered the Virgin Mary, who explained that this humble mud-brick structure was her original residence newly arrived from Nazareth. To keep it from the hands of Muslim invaders, angels had flown it to Loreto, stopping three times along the way. This story of the house of Loreto has been read as an allegory of how Catholicism spread peacefully around the world by dropping miraculously from the heavens. In this book, Karin Vélez calls that interpretation into question by examining historical accounts of the movement of the Holy House across the Mediterranean in the thirteenth century and the Atlantic in the seventeenth century. These records indicate vast and voluntary involvement in the project of formulating a branch of Catholic devotion. Vélez surveys the efforts of European Jesuits, Slavic migrants, and indigenous peoples in Baja California, Canada, and Peru. These individuals contributed to the expansion of Catholicism by acting as unofficial authors, inadvertent pilgrims, unlicensed architects, unacknowledged artists, and unsolicited cataloguers of Loreto. Their participation in portaging Mary’s house challenges traditional views of Christianity as a prepackaged European export, and instead suggests that Christianity is the cumulative product of thousands of self-appointed editors. Vélez also demonstrates how miracle narratives can be treated seriously as historical sources that preserve traces of real events. Drawing on rich archival materials, The Miraculous Flying House of Loreto illustrates how global Catholicism proliferated through independent initiatives of untrained laymen.
